Job summary

The Lexington Hotel NYC is seeking an Engineering Manager responsible for maintaining the building and grounds with emphasis on safety, security and asset protection. You will oversee work orders, supervise engineering staff and contractors, manage budgets, capital expenditures and energy conservation, and drive guest and team member satisfaction through effective communications and training.

Key duties include coordinating maintenance across HVAC, electrical, plumbing and life-safety systems,

Qualifications

  • High school degree (or equivalency) with hotel/college training preferred.
  • Stationary Engineer’s license if required by local code.
  • HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boiler operations and general maintenance skills.
  • Substantial knowledge of local laws and building codes.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in Engineering or Maintenance or related field.
  • Hold applicable certificates (Security License, FSD, CPR, etc.).
  • Knowledge and ability to read P&L, budget, financial statements.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience working in a labor organized environment preferred.
  • OSHA regulations, emergency planning and response knowledge.
  • Ability to multi-task and remain calm under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain open, collaborative relationships with team members.
  • Monitor timeliness and quality of completion of repair work orders.
  • Assist in managing and inspecting the physical property including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, electrical and life safety systems.
  • Determine work required to above systems regularly.
  • Assist in providing ongoing communication with team members to create awareness of business objectives, communicate expectations, and recognize performance.
  • Recommend or arrange for additional services such as painting, repair work, renovations, and the replacement of furnishings and equipment.
  • Select and order or purchase new equipment, supplies, and furnishings.
  • Assist in supervising the day-to-day operations of Engineering and related departments.
  • Maintain accurate logs and records.
  • Operate generators and fire pumps as necessary.
  • Provide emergency response services 24/7.
  • Repair equipment (e.g., refrigeration, laundry) as necessary.
  • Ensure all team members have the proper supplies, equipment, and uniforms.
  • Empower team members to provide excellent customer service, leads by example.
  • Train team members in safety procedures.
  • Communicate performance expectations in accordance with job descriptions.
  • Assist in interviews and hiring of team members with the appropriate skills.
  • Conduct fire drills and earthquake drills/evacuations on a quarterly basis for compliance.

Furthermore, this role assigns, tracks and follows up on status of work assigned to staff and contractors as needed and helps to increase guest and team member satisfaction through effective communications and training. This role will also assist in managing budget, capital expenditures, preventative maintenance, and energy conservation.

Requirements
