Responsibilities include technical reviews, project scope ownership, client relationships, and oversight of budgeting, utilization, and backlog to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.
• Civil engineering background with ability to review designs and coach engineers.
• Experience leading engineering or technical teams and mentoring staff.

Engineering Services Manager - Greater Madison WI

About the Opportunity

This leader will guide an established team of 8 to 11 civil engineers, surveyors, and technical staff, and oversee a mixed portfolio of private-sector site development and municipal civil engineering projects across the state. The focus of this role is continued development: mentoring staff, building the bench, and keeping a diverse project book on schedule and on budget.

What You'll Do

• Lead and develop a team of civil engineers, surveyors, and technical staff through mentoring, performance reviews, and career growth planning
• Provide technical review of roadway, transportation, sanitary sewer, wastewater, and surface water designs
• Own project scope, scheduling, and staffing decisions across private and municipal work
• Serve as a trusted point of contact for clients and build relationships that drive repeat business
• Manage team financial metrics, including utilization, fee budgets, staffing levels, and backlog
• Partner with leaders in other offices to balance workload and share resources
• Contribute to departmental goal-setting, budgeting, and business development

What You Bring

• Proven people-management experience leading and developing an engineering or technical team
• A civil engineering background strong enough to review designs and coach engineers
• Experience with both private-sector site development and municipal or public-sector projects
• Comfort owning operational and financial metrics
• Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field

Nice to Have

• Wisconsin PE license, or licensure in another state with a path to Wisconsin licensure
• Established relationships in the Wisconsin civil engineering market
• Experience with municipal funding, permitting, or RFP processes
• Familiarity with surveying operations

Compensation

• Base salary of $145,000 to $170,000 + bonus
• Relocation assistance and sign-on bonus available
