Job summary

A local convention center is seeking an Engineering Manager responsible for general facility maintenance, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems. The successful candidate will supervise and train staff, complete repairs, and maintain records of facility tasks. Ideal candidates should possess 3-5 years of maintenance experience, a valid SC Driver's License, and be able to operate forklifts and scissor lifts. This position requires strong communication and troubleshooting skills.

Qualifications

  • Must have remodeling experience or equivalent training.
  • Must be able to achieve forklift and scissor lift certification within three months.

Position Summary

The Engineering Manager is responsible for performing general facility maintenance to include but not limited to HVAC, lighting, data, phone, sound equipment, plumbing, painting, and other general maintenance as required. The Engineering Manager will also be responsible for assigning daily work orders, inputting times into AC system, maintaining the engineering department working schedule, and assisting the Engineering Director with contractors. This position also supervises, instructs, or trains others through explanation, demonstration, and supervised practice while making recommendations based on technical expertise.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities
  • Complete the repair of electrical components for facilities, including lighting, wire repair, electrical fixtures, control equipment, etc.
  • Disassembles and repair defective equipment.
  • Perform repairs, preventative and predictive maintenance.
  • Supply clients using the facility with utility services, connect electrical equipment, fuse panels to adjust amp.
  • Responsible for making basic repairs to facility plumbing, such as faucet maintenance and repair and replace.
  • Responsible for making basic repairs to facility HVAC, such as repairing leaks in the system or replacing thermostats.
  • Performs basic carpentry tasks; including but not limited to painting, sheet rock repair, doors, and hardware repair
  • Interpret blue prints, manufacturer’s specifications and written and oral instructions.
  • Responsible for assisting and maintaining maintenance records on Center equipment
  • Responsible for the repair of the building and grounds
  • All other duties as assigned
Skills/Requirements
  • Must be able to work scheduled shifts based on department needs
  • Must be computer literate
  • Must be competent at troubleshooting and able to operate refrigeration systems, air distribution systems, electrical wiring, and equipment controls.
  • Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and manuals, blueprints and be able to calculate figures and take measurements
  • Good communication skills are required
  • Must be able to problem solve and have the ability to develop and recommend solutions
  • Must be able to interact with people from various backgrounds
  • Must be able to operate a forklift and scissor lift up to 65 feet in height.
  • Must have a valid SC Driver’s License
Education Required
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • 3-5 years of previous facility maintenance experience required. Must have remodeling experience or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Must be certified to operate a forklift and scissor lift, or be able to achieve certification within three (3) months.
  • Trade certifications preferred.
