Job summary

MACOM is looking for an Engineering Group Lead in Lowell, Massachusetts to lead a team focused on automated optical inspection within the semiconductor fab. Qualifications

  • At least 15 years of semiconductor fab experience; higher degrees may substitute for experience.
  • Minimum of 8 years with automated defect inspection and metrology processes.
  • Prior personnel management experience preferred.
  • Must have US citizenship or permanent residence due to ITAR restrictions.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee MACOM's overall automated optical inspection (AOI) strategy.
  • Drive defect-reduction projects and collaborate with Process Integration teams.
  • Communicate goals and motivate engineering talent.
  • Contribute technically and present status to management.

Engineering Group Lead — AOI/Defect Metrology

In this critical role you will lead a small engineering team focused on automated optical inspection and defect reduction within MACOM’s internal semiconductor fab. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing MACOM’s overall AOI strategy.
  • Driving targeted defect‑reduction projects.
  • Collaborating with the fab Process Integration team on yield improvement across all product lines.
  • Clearly communicating goals, roles, and deliverables.
  • Engaging and motivating engineering talent.
  • Planning resources and achieving desired results.
  • Contributing technically and presenting status to executive‑level management.

Your contributions will directly influence the company’s quality and yield performance.

The right candidate will
  • Possess expert knowledge of automated defect inspection tools and techniques, especially for RF/compound semiconductor device fabrication.
  • Have a proven track record of technical problem‑solving, including data analysis and structured problem‑solving techniques.
  • Operate with a quality‑centric mindset, translating customer needs into appropriate screening approaches.
  • Have a working knowledge of semiconductor fabrication across many process areas and device types.
  • Be able to thrive in a fast‑paced, high‑intensity environment, handling ambiguity and competing priorities while driving strategic initiatives and roll‑up‑the‑dough activities.
  • Remain industry informed, familiar with the latest technologies and trends.
  • Enjoy finding solutions to difficult problems.
Qualifications / Skills
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related field, with at least 15 years of semiconductor fab experience (higher degrees may substitute for experience).
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience with automated defect inspection and related metrology processes.
  • Familiarity with OnTo/Rudolph AOI equipment and software (Discover/TrueADC) is a plus.
  • Prior personnel management experience strongly preferred.
  • US citizenship or permanent residence required due to ITAR restrictions.
Salary Range

$97,902 – $166,698, depending on location, experience, education, and specific knowledge, skills, and abilities.
