Job summary

High Performance Technologies, Inc. (HPTech) seeks an Engineering Laboratory Safety Specialist to lead safety evaluations and plan assessments for about 15 labs at a government facility.

You will act as Master Safety Professional and QC Inspector, guiding hazard analyses and risk mitigation across multiple labs. You will prepare reports, templates, and training recommendations, coordinating with scientists, engineers, and facility staff to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and FHWA safety

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Safety Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive safety experience in labs, facilities, or testing environments.
  • CSP preferred; CIH/CSHM or equivalent considered.
  • Experience performing JHAs, hazard assessments, audits, and risk analyses.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA and lab/industrial safety standards.
  • Experience creating safety plans, SOPs, training, and safety programs.
  • Ability to coordinate with scientists, engineers, technicians, and management.
  • Excellent written, verbal, analytical, and interpersonal communication.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as technical lead for laboratory safety evaluations and safety assessments.
  • Plan and conduct JHAs for engineering laboratories and facilities.
  • Perform walkthroughs to identify hazards across laboratories and testing sites.
  • Evaluate operations for OSHA compliance and applicable standards.
  • Review safety plans, SOPs, emergency procedures, PPE, and SDS management.
  • Apply hierarchy of hazard controls to develop risk mitigation measures.
  • Prepare risk assessments, compliance evaluations, and technical memoranda.
  • Develop standardized laboratory safety plan templates for labs.
  • Evaluate training programs and recommend certification requirements.
  • Develop inspection procedures, audits, and corrective-action processes.
  • Coordinate with laboratory managers, researchers, engineers, and safety staff.
  • Prepare technical presentations and briefings.
  • Serve as Quality Control Inspector ensuring deliverables meet government requirements.
