Job summary

VEIR in Woburn, MA, designs and builds superconducting power systems for AI data centers and high-performance computing. We seek a Lab Operations Manager to coordinate lab resources across test campaigns, manage technicians, and keep facilities safe and test-ready.

You will partner with engineers to plan testing activities, supervise staff, and oversee external test programs and budgets. Travel is approximately 10–15% as needed.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in engineering test, lab, or test operations with people leadership
• Engineering background with ability to understand test plans, instrumentation, and data
• Experience coordinating with external vendors, test facilities, or contractors
• Strong stakeholder management and communication across engineers, technicians, and leadership
• Familiarity with project tracking tools and lightweight processes to keep work visible
• Organized and detail-oriented with long-range planning ability

Responsibilities

• Coordinate technician and lab resources across concurrent test campaigns
• Supervise lab technicians and temporary staff with day-to-day direction and feedback
• Serve as primary contact for engineers requesting lab support and triage resource requests
• Maintain technical fluency in test methods, beds, and instrumentation for planning
• Forecast staffing needs based on test volume and program schedule
• Plan external test programs with partner labs, ensuring readiness and staffing
• Lead system integration testing scheduling with program leads
• Track lab workload using shared tracking tools to maintain visibility
• Collaborate with engineering and program leads to sequence test campaigns
• Own lab budget and capex planning for test equipment and consumables
• Manage test equipment lifecycle: calibration, maintenance, inventory, procurement
• Establish and maintain test procedures, records, and data management
• Maintain lab organization and readiness across VEIR's Woburn sites
• Coordinate with Facilities to ensure test infrastructure is ready
• Champion lab safety culture with reviews, PPE, training, and procedures
• Support onboarding of new technicians and ramp-up
• Escalate resourcing gaps or safety concerns to leadership
• Collaborate with People/HR on technician roles and hiring
