Job summary

BWXT/Precision Custom Components (PCC) offers on-site internships in York, PA for students in mechanical/industrial engineering, welding, and supply chain programs. You will work with engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain teams on real production projects and learn hands-on about precision component fabrication.

You’ll assist with design work, time studies, documentation, and continuous improvement while observing welding, fabrication, and machining operations.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, welding/manufacturing technology, supply chain, or related degree or certificate program.
• Relevant coursework or certifications (e.g., CAD, Six Sigma, AWS welding) are a plus.
• No prior industry experience required - we provide hands-on training and mentorship.
• Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office); familiarity with CAD or ERP software is a plus.
• Strong communication skills, a team-first attitude, and a willingness to ask questions and learn.
• US citizenship is required

Responsibilities

• Work alongside engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain teams on real production projects, both on the shop floor and in the office.
• Assist mechanical and industrial engineers with design work, process documentation, time studies, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Observe and support welding, fabrication, and machining operations to build hands-on understanding of how precision components are made.
• Help coordinate materials, inventory, and supplier activity to keep jobs moving through the shop on schedule.
• Collect and analyze production data, and present findings and recommendations to the team.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support safe, accurate, and efficient operations.
