Job summary

G2 Consulting Group, LLC is seeking construction engineering interns for the summer season (and during school) at our Troy, MI office. Interns will perform construction observation, testing, and report preparation within the construction engineering services group, handling earthwork, foundation, concrete, steel, masonry, paving, and other materials both in the field and in our labs.

Interns work closely with project managers and staff to ensure timely, high-quality work.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a BS or MS in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Preferred certifications: Nuclear Density, ACI, ICC, MDOT.
• Able to read and understand construction plans and specifications.
• Understanding of basic engineering concepts.
• Basic computer skills and knowledge of basic mathematics.
• Strong communication (verbal and written) skills.
• Strong prioritization, coordination and matrix management skills, self-directed and self-motivated.
• Good administrative and time management skills with keen attention to detail.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance with an excellent driving record.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs; stand for long periods.
• Willingness to work outside and travel occasionally.
• Ability to work overtime and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

• Represent G2 on assigned construction sites in a professional manner.
• Observe construction activities to ensure conformance with project specifications.
• Complete and submit daily field reports.
• Perform routine tests and computations for construction materials testing and field observations.
• Independently operate relevant equipment.
• Manage multiple projects for multiple project managers within budgets and deadlines.
• Assist with laboratory testing under the direction of a senior engineer/technician.
