Job summary

SCS Engineers is seeking a Summer 2027 intern for our San Diego, CA office. The internship offers hands-on experience in technical engineering and business operations through diverse client projects, and paths to explore your career. You’ll work on solid waste projects, design support for landfills and gas systems, and permitting, with field days included.

Interns typically work 40 hours per week in our San Diego office. Housing is not provided.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering and graduating by June 2029.
• Willing to live in the San Diego area for Summer 2027 (housing not provided).
• Solid technical and computer skills; AutoCAD experience is a plus.
• Desire to pursue consulting and professional licensure after graduation.
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Assist project teams with drilling activities, borehole logging, well construction, monitoring, and sampling.
• Conduct QA observations and inspections for conformity with design plans and specs.
• Compile data and help prepare reports (environmental site assessments, emissions, groundwater/soil investigations).
• Prepare permit applications and regulatory submittals with supporting documents.
• Compile data and perform basic calculations to support design documents or studies.
• Environmental and construction materials sampling; laboratory data management and review; surveying; CAD drafting.

What we are looking for

SCS Engineers is looking for a summer 2027 intern for our San Diego, CA office. This opportunity offers valuable hands‑on experience in both technical engineering and business operations through a diverse range of client projects while giving you the chance to explore the beginnings of your own career path.

As an intern, you’ll work alongside experienced professionals on projects centered around solid waste. You will be involved in design support for landfills and landfill gas systems, permitting, construction plans and construction oversight. Field days will be included in the internship as a further learning opportunity in the consulting field. You will typically work 40 hours per week and be based in our San Diego office 5 days a week.

How you can make an impact

You will contribute to our projects by assisting SCS project teams with the following tasks:

• Assist other staff in overseeing drilling activities involving probe and well installation, borehole logging, well development, well construction, monitoring, and sampling.
• Conduct and document construction quality assurance observations and similar construction inspections for compliance with design plans, specification, and construction documents.
• Compile data and help prepare portions of reports, progressing toward the ability to prepare complete reports, such as: environmental site assessment, emissions, monitoring, groundwater/soil investigation, compliance, and other project reporting.
• Help prepare permit applications and regulatory agency submittals and responses with supporting documentation as requested, including research of regulatory requirements.
• Compile data and prepare basic calculations for reports and to support design documents or other studies.
• Environmental and construction materials sample collection

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master’s degree in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering and graduating by June 2029 required.
• Must be willing to live in the San Diego area for Summer 2027 (housing allowance will not be provided).
• Solid technical and computer skills (AutoCAD experience a plus).
• Preference for candidates who demonstrate a desire to pursue a career in consulting and professional licensure upon graduation.
• Valid driver's license with a driving record in good standing required.

Pay Range

USD $21.00 - USD $26.00 /Yr.

At this time, we only consider candidates who are authorized to work in the United States on a full‑time basis without the need for current or future employer sponsorship for our internship program.
