Job summary

SCS Engineers is seeking a Senior Hydrogeologist to lead high-impact groundwater projects across California and Southwest offices. The role focuses on complex groundwater challenges in landfills and solid waste facilities, with hybrid work (3 days in office) across the Southwest region.

You’ll guide technical strategy, manage client relationships, and mentor junior staff, while expanding project opportunities and coordinating internal resources.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Hydrogeology, Geology, Environmental Chemistry or related science with hydrogeology coursework required.
  • Masters or PhD preferred.
  • Minimum 15 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, and execute scientific projects and tasks addressing complex groundwater problems.
  • Communicate with clients as Project Manager, Client Manager, or Technical Manager.
  • Deliver projects on time, within scope and budget.
  • Authorize reports and ensure QA on designs, calculations, data tables, and HASP.
  • Lead junior staff and coordinate field work and resources.

Job description

What we are looking for

SCS Engineers is looking for a Senior Hydrogeologist to lead and deliver high‑impact hydrogeology projects across California, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, and Utah, with a strong focus on California. In this influential role, you’ll apply your expertise to complex groundwater challenges, guide technical strategy, and shape solutions for landfills and other solid waste management facilities.

You can be based out of any SCS office in the Southwest region, and we proudly offer hybrid flexibility (3 days/week in office) to support both collaboration and autonomy.

How you can make an impact
  • Plan, develop, and execute scientific projects/tasks addressing unique or complex problems or specialty areas. This may involve research of the subject area, definition of scope, selection of investigative approaches, development of novel concepts/solutions, and guiding/reviewing the project/task as it is carried out.
  • Communicate with clients by email, telephone, and in face‑to‑face meetings as Project Manager, Client Manager, or Technical Manager or under other Project Manager's direction.
  • Deliver projects on‑time, within scope and within budget.
  • Write and prepare technical reports. Complete quality control reviews on work products (reports, design plans, calculations, data tables, HASP, etc.).
  • Delegate portions of project deliverables to junior staff for completion, coordinate and manage field work to be completed by others.
  • Lead permitting and regulatory agency coordination efforts.
  • Solicit client feedback, suggest changes for client satisfaction, and anticipate potential issues and develop solutions.
  • Lead, mentor, delegate to and manage junior staff to grow their knowledge and career path.
  • Coordinate internal resources and third parties/vendors for executing projects and ensure resource availability and allocation.
  • Develop relationships with a network of technical experts throughout the company.
  • Develop proposals by working with clients to understand their goals as well as technical needs and requirements.
  • Actively attend conferences, present on technical topics, and be involved in professional associations and committees as appropriate.
  • Have an active role in client prospecting and developing client plans and key opportunity plans.
  • Review and understand SOPs, standards, and templates and make improvement suggestions; work with junior staff to implement as appropriate.
  • Help develop new SOP's, standards, and templates.
  • Participate in strategic and service area annual planning.
  • Take a lead role in business development for hydrogeologic projects in the Southwest Business Unit.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, Environmental Chemistry or related science major with hydrogeology coursework required. Masters or PhD is preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience required.
  • Experience with statistical analysis and related groundwater statistical analysis software preferred. Groundwater modeling is a plus.
  • Experience in landfill and other solid waste management facility projects preferred.
  • Professional registration (PG, CEG, CHG) preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with a driving record in good standing required.
Pay Range

USD $100,000.00 - USD $150,000.00 /Yr.
