NWU is seeking an energetic undergraduate engineer to support facility data collection and analysis across Boston metro sites. The role involves gathering information, reviewing drawings with engineers, and traveling on MBTA routes to collect data on facility systems.

Candidates should be pursuing an engineering degree and demonstrate strong Excel/Google Sheets skills, AutoCAD proficiency, and professional communication in English. Onsite work in Charlestown, MA is required.

Your Role

Key responsibilities include:

• Supporting department staff by gathering and organizing information, locations, and pictures of assigned asset types such as sprinkler systems, standpipes, and pump rooms.
• Working with engineers to analyze drawings, blueprints, data, and equipment systemwide.
• Traveling the MBTA system to collect information and data on facility-related systems.
• Organizing data for ease of use and navigation using programs like Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets.
• Utilizing AutoCAD to produce, alter, and analyze drawings.
• Auditing and editing service contracts.
• Participating in team and staff meetings, organizational events, fieldwork, project teams, and other assigned duties.
• Providing internal and external customers with courteous and professional service.
• Performing additional responsibilities focused on specific departments or locations as assigned.

About You

The company is looking for candidates who meet the following qualifications:

• Currently enrolled and maintaining active status in an accredited undergraduate or Bachelor’s degree program in Facilities, Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Industrial, Environmental, or similar Engineering concentration.
• Ability to work 6:00 am to 2:30 pm onsite in Charlestown, MA.
• Advanced computer skills including Google Drive and Adobe Acrobat.
• Above average proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Ability to work independently with limited instructions.
• Strong skills in gathering, recording, and organizing information.
• Ability to investigate situations for diagnosis and track mechanical system extents from drawings, employee experience, or field investigation.
• Proficiency in navigating and riding the MBTA system.
• Willingness to follow Right of Way (ROW) rules and pass related testing.
• Proficiency with standard office software such as Microsoft Office.
• Effective communication skills in English, both written and oral.
• Highly organized, self-motivated, and detail oriented.
• Demonstrated interest in public transportation, urban planning, engineering, public policy, or public service.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in diverse, fast-paced environments.
• Ability to commute independently within the Greater Boston metro area.
• Authorized to work in the United States; international students in CPT, STEM, or OPT programs are eligible. The MBTA does not provide visa sponsorship.
