Job summary

APM Terminals Los Angeles invites a student intern to gain hands-on experience in maintenance management, reliability, and engineering support within a large port environment. You will work with experienced mechanics, storekeepers, and cross-functional teams to learn about asset management and ongoing improvement initiatives.

The role is designed for students pursuing STEM degrees, with a focus on Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in accredited bachelor’s degree program with a STEM focus.
• Eligibility to work in the United States.
• Interest in engineering, maintenance, equipment reliability, and troubleshooting.
• Programming knowledge and proficiency with PC applications, including Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Assist with maintenance management activities and initiatives that improve equipment and system performance.
• Support preventive maintenance processes, equipment inspections, troubleshooting activities, and safety practices.
• Help review and improve routine maintenance and repair checklists.
• Assist with data entry, maintenance shift reports, equipment records, and maintenance software updates.
• Apply basic mechanical, electrical, and automation principles while supporting daily operations.
• Participate in equipment troubleshooting efforts and help identify opportunities to reduce repetitive breakdowns and improve reliability.
• Contribute to continuous improvement projects, safety initiatives, and other learning projects.
