Job summary

Spira Manufacturing seeks an Engineering Intern to partner with Engineering and Finance on a cross-functional operational improvement project.   • Willingness to learn ERP systems, BOMs, routings, labor and cost data, process controls, and manufacturing workflows.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional partners including Engineering, Finance, Operations, and IT.

Responsibilities

  • Complete onboarding and learn project scope, processes, success measures, stakeholders, and confidentiality expectations.
  • Collect and validate process, labor, routing, material, and cost data with cross-functional partners.
  • Conduct time studies and summarize cycle-time, labor, and efficiency findings.
  • Prepare a margin analysis with Finance and identify key cost drivers.
  • Develop or improve process controls and document ownership.

Spira Manufacturing is seeking an Engineering Intern to partner with Engineering and Finance on a cross-functional operational improvement project. The intern will perform time studies, support margin analysis, strengthen process controls, validate ERP bill-of-material (BOM) configurations, develop work instructions, and assist the Engineering team with assigned projects and data analysis.

This internship runs Tuesday, 09/08/26 – end of December (12-16 weeks) and requires 20–40 hours per week.

Job Accountabilities:
  • Complete onboarding and learn the project scope, selected processes, success measures, stakeholders, and required confidentiality expectations.
  • Collect and validate process, labor, routing, material, and cost data with Engineering, Finance, Operations, and Quality partners.
  • Conduct time studies for assigned manufacturing processes and summarize cycle-time, labor, and efficiency findings.
  • Prepare a margin analysis with Finance for the selected product or process scope and identify key cost drivers.
  • Develop or improve process controls, including critical control points, data requirements, measurement methods, and ownership.
  • Review ERP BOM and routing configurations, document gaps, and support approved corrections with the ERP Administrator or IT.
  • Create or update work instructions for safety, quality, and standardized work, obtaining owner approval before release.
  • Provide engineering project support through data collection, analysis, documentation, testing, and follow-up actions.
  • Deliver a final report and presentation summarizing results, recommendations, measurable impact, and handoff items.
Job Specifications:

Education: Currently enrolled in college, university, or a relevant career/technical program; coursework in engineering, manufacturing, industrial technology, operations, supply chain, finance, data analysis, or a related field is preferred.

Years’ Experience: No prior professional experience required. Exposure to engineering, manufacturing, process improvement, cost analysis, ERP systems, data collection, or team-based projects is helpful.

Skills:
  • Strong analytical thinking, organization, attention to detail, and ability to validate data and reconcile discrepancies.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, with the ability to document processes and present findings to technical and business audiences.
  • Willingness to learn ERP systems, BOMs, routings, labor and cost data, process controls, and manufacturing workflows.
