Job summary

PPL Corporation in Lexington, KY invites a student intern to join our engineering team focused on transmission lines. The Co-op will assist engineers with surveying facilities, layout development, and CAD drawings, gaining hands-on experience in an energized utility environment.

Preferred candidates are pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, with a minimum 2.5 GPA, and able to work part-time during the semester (~10–15 hours/week) or full-time in the summer.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree with declared major in Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering
• Available part time during the semester (~10-15 hours week) and full time during the summer.
• Minimum 2.50 GPA

Responsibilities

• Transmission Lines: Co-op will assist engineers with surveying existing facilities and construction layouts, coordinating underground utility locates, providing department database support, and review of shop drawings.
• Develop construction drawings and documents, creating structure and foundation CAD drawings, and scanning and filing as-built drawings.
• Develop PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE design models as the term progresses.
• Office and field work.
• Identify opportunities for improvement and/or suggest improved methods.
• Gather, correlate, and analyze specific data using established procedures.
• Perform engineering calculations, tests and analyses as required.
• Support operating and maintenance functions with engineering analysis and troubleshooting.
• Assist Engineers with large projects and with development of station/engineering goals, budgets, programs and procedures.
