Job summary

ATC Drivetrain LLC in Knoxville, TN is seeking an engineering intern to assist with planning, designing, and coordinating the integration of machinery and equipment into manufacturing processes. You will help develop equipment specifications, performance requirements, and participate in testing and installation activities.

The role requires you to be an engineering student pursuing a bachelor's degree and to read and interpret technical materials.

Responsibilities

• Assists in developing and writing equipment specifications, performance requirements, cost analysis, and proposal for integrating machinery and equipment into manufacturing processes.
• Selects or designs tools and fixtures to meet specifications.
• Writes operating programs from existing computer programs or develops own programs.
• Assists with installation to ensure machines and equipment are installed and functioning according to specifications.
• Tests the ability of machines to perform tasks.
• Collaborates with personnel to implement operating procedures and resolve system malfunctions.
• Assists in determining parts supply, maintenance tasks, safety procedures, and service schedules.
• Develops models of alternative processing methods to test feasibility of new applications of system components and recommends improved procedures.
• Participates in meetings, seminars, and training sessions as a representative of engineering.
• Confers with workers in other departments to provide technical information.
• Develops and conducts equipment training programs for trainees.
• Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and product quality.

SUMMARY

• Selects or designs various tools and/or fixtures to meet specifications.
• Write operating programs from existing computer program or writes own computer program.
• Assists with installation to ensure machines and equipment are installed and functioning according to specifications.
• Tests the ability of machines to perform tasks.
• Confers with establishment personnel to implement operating procedures and resolve system malfunctions.
• Assists in determining parts supply, maintenance tasks, safety procedures, and service schedule required to maintain machines and equipment in prescribed condition.
• Develops models of alternate processing methods to test feasibility of new applications of system components and recommends implementation of improved procedures.
• Participates in meetings, seminars, and training sessions as a representative of the engineering department.
• Confers with workers in other departments such as marketing, legal, and engineering, to provide technical information.
• Develops and conducts related equipment training programs and demonstrates skills to trainees.
• Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and quality of product.

QUALIFICATIONS To

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Engineering student working toward a bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
