New-Leader-Manufacturing in Cedar Rapids, IA is seeking an Engineering Intern to support production and assist with CAD modeling and design changes. You will collaborate with engineering and shop teams to evaluate design alternatives and implement engineering changes.

Qualifications include pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or related engineering, a GPA of 2.7 or higher, and basic knowledge of mechanical systems and SolidWorks.

The Engineering Intern provides support for production related issues including blueprint drawing updates, design fit issues, tooling updates and CAD modeling of design updates.

  • Support production in the manufacturing of products. Day to day issues and clarifications. Evaluate design alternatives from suppliers. Troubleshoot issues and propose alternatives Execute engineering change process.
  • Support sales/service in product upgrades or customer requests.
  • CAD modeling of design changes. SolidWork with PDM for CAD vaulting.
  • Manufacturing environment requiring hands on investigations and proposed solutions.

  • Implement multiple manufacturing change requests. Number will be determined based on complexity.
  • Assist in model layout updates in vault.
  • Assist with completion of multiple Engineering Changes.
  • Demonstrates a good attendance record; is aware of the impact that missing work will have on the customer as well as co-workers.

Requirements
Qualifications and Essential Skills:
  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • GPA of 2.7 or higher
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical systems and solid modeling
  • Demonstration of the following skills: organization, critical thinking, and teamwork

The noise level in the office work environment is usually quiet. Employee may be exposed to shop environment while distributing documents to shop area. When on shop floor, employee will be required to wear safety glasses at all times, steel-toed footwear and ear protection when job demands presence in areas outside safety zones and gloves when handling material. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration, and occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the plant shop environment is moderately loud.
