Job summary

Engineering Overview
  • Operating and maintaining manufacturing, utility, and automation systems in compliance with US and global regulations
  • Searching for and implementing continuous improvements
  • Managing capital projects (including design, construction, and start-up)
  • Designing and developing drug delivery systems, manufacturing processes (including scale-up and commercialization), waste reduction and energy minimization processes, safety systems and environmental controls
  • Transportation, Distribution, and warehouse analysis and optimization

The internships are a temporary summer position that lasts for 12 CONTINUOUS weeks beginning in May or June 2027. Each engineering intern will be assigned a project affording the opportunity to actively contribute to the manufacturing organization, build a comprehensive understanding of the pharmaceutical industry, and the role engineers play at creating solutions for Eli Lilly and Company. Interns will interact with other engineering and manufacturing professionals, including Lilly senior management. Professional development and social events will be held throughout the summer. At the conclusion of the work period, each intern will present their project highlights, findings, and general internship accomplishments to engineering and manufacturing professionals.

Basic Qualifications
  • Currently attending a BS or MS Engineering program and will have completed sophomore or junior year prior to internship with completion of the degree by August 2029.
  • Qualified applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Lilly will not provide support for or sponsor the following work authorization or visas for this role: F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, F-1 STEM OPT, J-1, H-1B, TN, O-1, E-3, H-1B1, or L-1.
Additional Functional Job Skills & Preference

  • Previous internship experience within the pharmaceutical industry
  • Prior experience using AI tools (e.g., generative AI platforms, automation tools, or AI-assisted research/analytics tools) in an academic, project, or work setting.
Additional Information
  • Positions currently located in Indianapolis, IN or Lebanon, IN, Concord, NC, Durham, NC, or Kenosha, WI.
  • All interns will be considered for full-time positions based on their internship performance.
  • Lilly arranges various intern activities including sporting events, dinners, lunch and learns, volunteer activities etc. to provide opportunities for socializing, professional development, and learning more about Lilly.
  • Interns will receive 1 week of paid time off during the Lilly summer shut-down (July 5th – July 9th).
  • Interns will receive a competitive salary and free parking at their work site, as well as access to Lilly’s onsite facilities.
  • If the intern's job position requires a move from another location, Lilly will provide subsidized housing.
  • Interns are responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from work.

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is Undergrad: $48,600 - $73,600 Masters: $76,500 - $88,400.

The anticipated wage for this position is $43,000 - $123,200. Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
