Job summary

Heartland Food Products Group in Indianapolis seeks an Engineering Intern to support production and quality teams. You will work on projects across Sales, Engineering, Quality, Production and Research, gaining hands-on experience in a fast-paced CPG environment.

Pursing a Bachelor's degree in a technical field, you will apply problem solving and communication skills, with proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Outlook.

• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Management, Business, Food Science or a related technical field.

Responsibilities

• Utilizes all food safety and food security guidelines, including Safe Quality Foods (SQF) good manufacturing practices and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points.
• Assist in coordinating the activities of the employees engaged in the production or processing of goods, such as packers, machine operators, and blenders.
• Develops and motivates team to solve own day-to-day operational issues and achieve plant goals through ongoing communication and facilitation of team meetings.
• Coordinates daily inventories and supplies and other operational activities within or between departments.
• Plans and establishes work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet production goals.
• Inspects materials, products, or equipment to detect defects or malfunctions.
• Observes work and monitor gauges, dials, or other indicators to ensure that operators conform to production or processing standards.
• All other duties as assigned.

Scope:

Engineering Intern will be involved in work and/or research centered on key roles supported by Heartland FPG including Sales, Engineering, Quality, Production and Research. Interns could also have the opportunity to participate in client and consultant meetings as well as communication and research initiatives. Interns will have the opportunity to participate in and learn about production side of business.

Physical Demands:

• Must be able to physically perform the functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
• Must be able to work seated using a computer and phone for long periods of time.
• Must be able to work extended hours, such as daily overtime and an occasional weekend
• Must possess visual acuity to document company records
• Continuous walking throughout plant and distribution center.
