Job summary

Consumers Energy is seeking an Engineering Entry Program (EEP) Engineer to start a two-year, full-time rotation across electric distribution, generation, and gas operations in Michigan. You will complete four 6-month rotations, gaining broad exposure and leadership skills, with placement into a permanent role on completion.

Eligible candidates have an ABET-accredited engineering degree (or non-ABET with a Professional Engineer license).

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree from an ABET accredited university.
  • Or engineering degree from a non-ABET accredited university plus Professional Engineering license.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, construction, and maintenance of Electric Distribution, Electric Generation, Gas Distribution and/or Gas Transmission systems as well as facilities and ancillary support process for all utility operations.
  • Lead and/or assist with engineering projects to include design, plans, inspections, system planning, specifications, reports, maps, environmental impacts, permits, contracts, schedules, estimates, surveying, easements, data collection, construction observation, and field investigation.
  • Produce reports, graphics, presentations, and other visual material to present to senior engineers and leadership, may also include occasional speaking or meeting with internal and external stakeholders to present reports.
  • Review operating and construction sites to monitor progress and other duties per the design documents.
  • Use computer assisted engineering, design, and drafting software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents; understanding and following company established standard procedures for projects, including plans and specifications, maps, and related material for each project.

Engineering Entry Program (EEP) Engineer

Location: MULTIPLE LOCATIONS, MI, US

We are looking for:

The Engineering Entry Program (EEP) Engineer will be entered into a full time 2-year engineering rotation where they will be exposed to a variety of engineering roles within defined areas of focus, developing long-term technical and leadership skills, as well as providing mentorship and skill-building activities. The EEP Engineer will have 4 distinct 6-month rotations that offer both corporate and field-based assignments; individual experiences are defined by both CMS Energy (CE) business needs and the EEP Engineer strengths. The program also involves a comprehensive list of learning activities that will provide the EEP Engineer with an overview of the electric, gas, and generation segments within CMS Energy. Upon completion of the Engineering Entry Program (EEP), the EEP Engineer will be placed into a full-time a position that balances their skills and knowledge, personal interests, and business needs.

Knowledge/skills/and abilities:

  • Individual should exemplify safe work practices and follow the company’s compliance standards.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills are critical.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, including being able to create presentations and spreadsheet.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Aptitude to learn new skills and concepts and adapt quickly to new situations.
