Job summary

SUMMARYThe Professional Sr., Engineering - Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) is responsible for leading complex engineering assignments related to electromagnetic compatibility certification, analysis, testing, and sustaining activities. This position supports aircraft safety and compliance with internal and external electromagnetic requirements, including Electromagnetic Interference (EMI), High-Intensity Radiated Fields (HIRF), Low-Intensity Radiated Fields (LIRF), Lightning, and Electrostatic Discharge.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSLead complex engineering assignments related to EMI, HIRF, LIRF, Lightning, and Electrostatics, including detailed analyses using similarity assessments, simulation, and analytical methodsDrive resolution of electromagnetic-related issues to support EMC certification, sustaining activities, production, and in-service aircraft supportDefine EMC scope of work, project effort, activities, milestones, technical risks, and task priorities for engineering projectsAnalyze new and modified system or structure designs to assess engineering impacts and propose EMC compliance approachesReview and approve engineering documentation, including test procedures, test reports, analysis reports, and certification compliance documentationSupport creation and updates of technical requirements for EMI, HIRF, LIRF, Lightning, and ElectrostaticsPrepare and review aircraft-level EMI, HIRF, LIRF, Lightning, and Electrostatic Discharge test procedures, oversee testing, and generate test reportsProvide EMC guidance to internal teams, external suppliers, partners, clients, and collaborative research and development teamsMentor junior team members and interns, delegate project work, and support knowledge capture, training, and skills development initiativesRepresent the EMC team in multidisciplinary meetings and support EMC testing in Canada, the United States, and Europe as neededIdentify and implement improvements to engineering processes, technical practices, and EMC best practicesComply with company policies and procedures and perform other duties as assignedKNOWLEDGEAdvanced knowledge of electromagnetic compatibility, including EMI, HIRF, LIRF, Lightning, Electrostatics, and Electrostatic Discharge requirementsKnowledge of aerospace EMC qualification and certification processes for aircraft systems and structuresWorking knowledge of relevant industry standards, including RTCA/DO-160 and SAE Aerospace Recommended PracticesFamiliarity with airworthiness regulations and advisory materials from TCCA, FAA, and EASA related to EMC complianceKnowledge of test planning, aircraft-level EMC testing, analysis reports, certification documentation, and compliance verificationExperience with electromagnetic simulation tools is preferredCOMPETENCIESStrong engineering leadership and ability to work independently on complex technical assignmentsExcellent analytical thinking, problem-solving, and technical decision-making skillsAbility to identify technical, schedule, and budget risks related to EMC activitiesClear and professional written and verbal communication with technical and non-technical audiencesAbility to mentor, coach, train, and guide junior team members and internsCollaborative approach with airworthiness, manufacturing, engineering, suppliers, partners, and clientsAbility to manage priorities, deadlines, multidisciplinary reviews, and occasional travel requirementsEXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONDegree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Sciences, Physics, or a related technical discipline requiredMinimum of eight years of EMC experience, which may include professional and/or academic experience, requiredMinimum of four years of aerospace systems or structures EMC qualification/certification experience requiredExperience participating in major project and design reviews and identifying EMC-related technical, schedule, and budget risks requiredDemonstrated specialist-level expertise in at least one area of EMC, with broad knowledge across additional EMC disciplines requiredParticipation in at least one aircraft development program is preferredFrench language skills, knowledge of the aviation business, and experience with electromagnetic simulation tools are preferredWORKING CONDITIONSProlonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computerRepetitive use of the hands, wrists, and arms due to computer usageWork is primarily performed in an office or engineering environment with occasional exposure to laboratory, test, aircraft, or production environmentsTravel may be required to support EMC testing, technical reviews, and project activities in Canada, the United States, and EuropeReasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the positionWORK AUTHORIZATION/SECURITY CLEARANCEMust be legally authorized to work in the United StatesIf a security clearance is required:Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain applicable security clearance requirementsSuccessful candidates must be able to obtain required Program Access approval, if applicable
