Job summary

GE Vernova is seeking an Engineering EHS Risk Manager to serve as the primary EHS subject-matter expert for Gas Power Engineering in Greenville, SC, with support across North America and global locations.

You will lead EHS risk management, MOC, incident learning, and operating rigor for Engineering activities while partnering with Site EHS, Facilities, Global Supply Chain, contractors, and business EHS teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Environment, Health and/or Safety, Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum of 5 years of EHS experience in industrial/engineering environments.

Responsibilities

• Govern Engineering EHS Management of Change for equipment, labs, test operations, SOPs, chemicals, work methods and facilities interfaces.
• Facilitate or support risk assessments (HAZOP, FMEA, What-if, LOPA) for Engineering Labs.
• Lead MOC reviews with risk assessment, approvals, and closure tracking.
• Interpret OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and local/international EHS requirements for Engineering activities.
• Embed EHS early in project planning, labs, test operations, and contractor activities.
• Review high-risk Engineering work and escalate when risks or ownership are unclear.
• Lead or support investigations of incidents; ensure root causes, corrective actions, and lessons learned.
• Plan risk-based EHS reviews, audits, and compliance assessments for labs and activities.
• Establish EHS operating mechanisms including KPIs, leading indicators, training status, and MOC trackers.
• Clarify ownership boundaries to ensure Engineering risks are identified and closed.
• Influence and coach Engineering leaders to make risk-based, safe decisions.

The Engineering EHS Risk Manager will serve as the primary EHS subject-matter expert and risk advisor for GE Vernova Gas Power Engineering in Greenville, SC, with support across North America and global Engineering locations as needed. This role will lead Engineering EHS risk management, MOC, compliance support, incident learning, and EHS operating rigor for Engineering-owned activities, while partnering closely with Site EHS, Facilities, Global Supply Chain, contractors, and business EHS teams. The role reports to the GE Vernova Gas Power Engineering Business Operations leader and requires strong technical judgment, influence, and practical leadership to help Engineering work safely and compliantly.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities:

• Govern Engineering EHS Management of Change for equipment, labs, test operations, Standard Operating Procedures, chemicals, work methods, facilities interfaces, and other changes that may create EHS risk.
• Facilitate or support HAZOP, FMEA, or equivalent risk assessments for Engineering Labs
• Facilitate or support MOC reviews, ensure appropriate risk assessment and approvals, verify controls before use, and track actions through closure.
• Interpret applicable OSHA, EPA, NFPA, company, state/local, and relevant international EHS requirements for Engineering activities and coordinate with specialists where needed.
• Partner with Engineering teams to embed EHS early in project planning, lab changes, test operations, prototype work, equipment installation, commissioning, and contractor activities.
• Review higher-risk Engineering work before execution and elevate when risks, controls, approvals, or ownership are unclear.
• Lead or support investigations of Engineering incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions; ensure root causes, corrective actions, lessons learned, and effectiveness checks are completed.
• Plan and conduct risk-based EHS reviews, audits, and compliance assessments for Engineering labs, test areas, equipment, and work activities. Support Power segment EHS reviews, audits, and compliance assessments as appropriate.
• Establish and support Engineering EHS operating mechanisms, including KPIs, leading indicators, training status, audit findings, MOC actions, compliance actions, and leadership review cadence.
• Clarify ownership boundaries between Engineering, Site EHS, Facilities, Global Supply Chain, contractors, Business Operations EHS SME’s and other organizations while ensuring Engineering risks are identified, escalated, and closed.
• Influence and coach Engineering leaders, managers, and employees to make practical, risk-based decisions that support safe and compliant execution.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Environment, Health and/or Safety, Engineering or equivalent
• Minimum of 5 years of EHS experience in an industrial, engineering, manufacturing, laboratory, test, energy, aerospace, or similarly technical environment

Eligibility Requirements:

• This is a 100% onsite position in Greenville, SC (this is not a remote position)

Desired Characteristics:

• Experience with PSM, PHA, HAZOP, FMEA, What-if Analysis, LOPA, or equivalent hazard-analysis methods
• Ability to build simple EHS operating mechanisms such as risk registers, leading indicators, compliance calendars, training matrices, audit plans, and MOC trackers
• Strong communicator and influencer with the confidence to challenge risk while helping teams find practical solutions
• Preferred certification such as CSP, CIH, CHMM, PE, ISO 45001/14001 auditor qualification, or equivalent EHS credential

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $113,100.00 and $188,500.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
