We seek Directors and Engineering Leaders to act as technical leads for cross-functional teams and to mentor engineers. This remote-first org may involve travel, with state and federal project workflows and compliance in mind.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience with open-source programming languages, modern frameworks, libraries, and runtimes.
• 5+ years of experience with APIs and databases of various types.
• 5+ years working with cloud platforms, infrastructure tools, and IAC.
• 5+ years of CI/CD and pipeline tools.
• 3+ years managing direct reports and teams in complex ecosystems.
• Strong internet connectivity and security-conscious practices.
• Ability to mentor engineers and lead cross-vertical initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Prioritize and develop assigned direct reports with growth plans.
• Write and review code, ensuring high quality, maintainability, and test coverage.
• Solve problems across the tech stack and build new systems.
• Mentor engineers on programming and product development best practices.
• Apply accessibility and engineering best practices across projects.
• Collaborate with researchers, designers, and stakeholders on solutions.
• Engage in agile/scrum ceremonies and break down requirements into tasks.
• Explain benefits and risks of different technical approaches.
• Contribute to engineering processes and governance.
• Support business development with technical proposals when needed.
• Participate in engineering leadership to drive cross-vertical initiatives.
