Job summary

Colliers Engineering & Design in Columbia, MD is seeking an Engineering Designer to support Civil/Site projects. You will perform calculations, develop drawings, and ensure designs meet standards under experienced engineers’ guidance.

The role emphasizes hands-on CAD work (AutoCAD Civil 3D) and collaboration across disciplines, with growth opportunities in civil engineering. Strong detail orientation and English literacy are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• 0-2+ years of related experience.
• Engineer in Training preferred.
• Valid driver’s license preferred.
• Strong CAD skills, including AutoCAD, Civil 3D, HydroCAD, and WaterCAD.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills.
• Attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Civil3D.
• Land Development project experience.
• Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering calculations and create estimates.
• Develop drawings by modifying or replicating a prior project, applying changes and corrections from redlined drawings, and/or creating drawings from sketches of others or from own design.
• Ensure designs are in accordance with company and client production and design standards.
• Perform QA/QC by verifying design methodology, calculations, outcomes, etc.
• Interpret and understand drawings from multiple disciplines for specific projects and respond to requests for information regarding same.
• Conduct field inspections and surveys, investigate variables, obtain measurements, photographs, videos, and take notes; write reports documenting same.
• Research and apply code provisions to design.
• Work with experienced engineers to create project designs.
• Utilize Autocad Civil 3D on a daily basis.
• Research design options and document findings for project manager.
• Evaluate, select and apply standard engineering techniques and procedures, using own judgement to make adaptations and modifications to existing designs.
• Assist other Engineers and leaders as needed in the creation of designs.
