Job description

Engineering Department Manager - Civil / Structural

Our Client | Location flexible within the Eastern U.S.

About the role

Our client is a civil and structural consulting firm that takes on technically demanding building and site projects across science, technology, advanced manufacturing, and other critical facility markets. They are adding a senior civil/structural leader to open and grow a new office, with the expectation that you become the person clients and staff in that region look to first.

If you like the work but are ready for more say in which projects you chase, which people you hire, and how a local practice is built, this is that inflection-point role.

What you will do
  • Lead civil and/or structural design on multi-discipline facility projects from early planning through construction support.
  • Serve as the primary technical and client contact in your region, deepening existing relationships and helping bring new ones into the firm.
  • Manage and mentor engineers and designers, setting the tone for quality, coordination, and how the local team operates day to day.
  • Work with leadership on staffing, workload, and pursuit strategy as the office grows, with a direct voice in how the regional practice takes shape.
What we are looking for
  • Bachelor degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Roughly 10+ years in consulting, with a track record of leading projects and coordinating with owners, architects, and other disciplines.
  • Experience guiding staff and acting as a main point of contact on active work.
  • Interest in helping build an office or region, not just managing an inherited book.
Why this role
  • Lead and grow a civil/structural group in a market with room to expand.
  • Shape a local team and client base with support from an established technical platform and multi-state footprint.
  • Step into a visible role where your judgment on projects, people, and priorities actually moves the firm.
  • Competitive compensation and benefits aligned with the seniority and impact of the position.
