Job summary

Crane Company is seeking an Engineering Co-Op to provide broad engineering support across product design, CAD documentation, and lab activities. You will work on projects serving industrial and military markets, preparing drawings, maintaining BOMs, and assisting with product testing in the lab.

You will collaborate with multiple departments, translate ideas into design details, and gain hands-on experience in manufacturing environments while supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s or equivalent in Mechanical, Mechanical Tech, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks preferred) and MS Office products.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare layout drawings and assemblies and perform calculations to support design.
  • Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOM) structures.
  • Design new/modified products using CAD tools.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales & Marketing, Purchases & Inventory Control, Suppliers and Customers.

Job description

BASIC FUNCTION: The Engineering Co-Op will provide general engineering support, which includes but is not limited to, product design, CAD documentation, improvement initiatives, and lab support. This person will work on impactful projects that relate to business needs working with products that serve industrial, commercial, residential, municipal, and military markets.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Prepare layout drawings and assemblies, dimensional analysis, review mechanical components for functional compatibility and perform product performance calculations as necessary to support engineers working on design projects.
  • Create new and maintain old Bills of Material structure
  • Design new and/or modified products using CAD equipment and software.
  • Communicate well with all personnel inside and outside the company structure including Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales & Marketing, Purchasing & Inventory Control, Suppliers, Customers and other personnel.
  • Utilize knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, building materials, and other physical sciences to complete drawings.
  • Provide technical assistance to Engineering and all other departments as needed or assigned.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing in the solution of manufacturing, inspection, assembly and testing problems. Collaboration with marketing and applications engineering with respect to customer concerns or requirements.
  • Investigate product improvement opportunities and shortcomings discovered through testing or field performance data. Develop solutions and or improvements.
  • Work in lab to build appropriate test apparatus to verify product design
  • Run product verification tests in lab as necessary
  • Some travel required for customer and supplier liaison activity.
  • Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
  • Working toward B.S. Mechanical, Mechanical Tech, or Electrical Engineering
  • Experience with modeling software (SolidWorks preferred), as well as thorough knowledge of all MS Office software: (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project and Access).
  • Strong Communications and Organization skills
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and process instructions
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  • Able to safely operate in wide variety of factory settings
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • The position includes deskwork using a computer, following up with production in Machine Shop or Assembly Areas, and assisting with product testing in the Lab.
