Job summary

Morton Salt is seeking an Engineering Co-Op for a part-time role designed for a current student to gain hands-on experience in our mining-operations environment. You will work under the guidance of experienced engineers across the plant, maintenance, electrical and other departments to learn plant processes and safety practices.

This co-op emphasizes practical assignments, fieldwork in underground and surface areas, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a community college, technical program, or bachelor’s degree program.
• Basic math, reading, writing, and computer skills.
• Self-motivated with a willingness to learn and take on new challenges.
• Comfortable working in an industrial and/or mine environment with varying temperatures and conditions.
• Ability to perform physical activities including lifting up to 50 pounds and wearing PPE.

Responsibilities

• Work alongside experienced employees to learn plant and mine processes, equipment, systems, and daily operations.
• Assist with projects and activities related to operations, maintenance, safety, reliability, and continuous improvement.
• Participate in troubleshooting and problem-solving with cross-functional teams.
• Support preventative maintenance, housekeeping, and other site programs as needed.
• Complete assigned tasks safely and in accordance with company procedures, policies, and regulations.
• Promote a safe work environment for employees, contractors, and visitors.
• Comply with health, safety, environmental, and food safety requirements.
• Perform other duties and project work as assigned.
