A leading non-profit organization in Dayton, Ohio, is seeking an Engineering Co-op intern. Qualifications

  • Revise production SOPs and related documentation.
  • Identify process improvements using Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Develop visuals for analyzing problem statements.
  • Provide project updates to leadership.
  • Ensure Good Documentation Practices are followed.

As an Engineering Co-op within the Process, Engineering & Development department at Solvita, students will be responsible for identifying and developing solutions to solve various challenges to optimize safety of our technicians, quality of our grafts, and efficiency of our operations. This role is critical to ensuring we maximize the gifts of tissue donation we are entrusted with and providing life‑saving allografts to patients around the world.

Responsibilities
  • Work alongside both Manufacturing Engineers and Process Improvement Engineers to develop solutions to high priority challenges within operations including tissue recovery & chart evaluation, microbiology testing, clean room operations, post‑production operations, quality control, and supply chain operations.
  • Utilize SolidWorks 3D modeling for idealizing new and/or revised tooling designs to support manufacturing in transforming donated tissues into high‑quality and high‑precision allografts.
  • Utilize SolidWorks to create engineering drawings and work with local machining and post‑processing shops to develop prototypes and final concepts.
  • Create and revise production SOPs and related documentation to transition new processes and equipment into production.
  • Work with cross‑functional teams to identify process improvements for various problems utilizing Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Develop visuals (PowerPoint, PowerBI, Visio, etc.) for analyzing problem statements such as process/value stream maps, FMEA, fishbone diagrams, pareto charts, and trending graphs.
  • Provide updates to various levels of leadership addressing overall project progression, barriers to implementation, and requests for additional resources if applicable.
  • Ensure Good Documentation Practices (GDPs) and all quality guidelines, internal and external, are followed throughout projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
  • Pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering at an accredited university.
