Job summary

UMass Amherst is seeking an Assistant Director of Career Development to provide career advising and placement support for Riccio College of Engineering students pursuing internships and permanent roles. The role emphasizes industry engagement and student-ready interviewing and resume coaching.

The position requires collaboration with faculty, alumni, and employers, leveraging a hybrid work setup and a strong emphasis on developing targeted employment opportunities for students.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (education, counseling, engineering, or related field) with 2 years of related experience.
• Master’s degree (education, counseling, engineering, or related field) acceptable for consideration.
• Strong interpersonal, effective communication, and relationship-building with a diverse population.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, and strong presentation skills.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
• Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment.
• Proficient with email, calendars, word processing, spreadsheets, and file sharing tools.

Responsibilities

• Develops advising programs and learning tools for focused career searches, in one-on-one and workshop/small group settings.
• Researches industry hiring trends and shares insights with students, faculty, and administration.
• Partners with targeted industry segments and professional organizations for career activities.
• Reviews resumes and conducts practice interviews to prepare students for the job market.
• Develops career development skills: networking, etiquette, interviewing, and negotiations.
• Counsels students to create realistic job search strategies by industry.
