Physical duties include frequent sitting, standing, lifting, and exposure to construction noise and varied weather conditions, while handling stressful situations and making decisions under pressure.

• Performs drafting, computing, and checking of field operations as related to the layout and construction of roads; sanitation, drainage and water systems; subdivisions; bridges; traffic signals; street lighting systems; and solid and hazardous waste facilities.

• Assists in the design of Public Works projects by preparing plans, profiles and cross sections; making quantity estimates, horizontal and vertical alignments and curve computations; and establishing highway and hydraulic gradients.

• Prepares and reviews maps, right-of-way deeds and legal descriptions; calculates and plots the results of field surveys; and locates, sets or resets survey points.

• Writes engineering specifications for proposed projects; makes estimates for projects planned or under construction; drafts engineering reports; assists in the application of principles of engineering design and theory to assigned projects.

• May act as resident engineer for projects under contract such as roads; sanitation, drainage and water systems; buildings and other facilities.

• May serve as a lead worker or supervise a field crew; may monitor field activities and work production; may instruct subordinate staff to make corrections or modifications to ensure compliance with standards and regulations.

KNOWLEDGE
