Electronics Assembler - Engineering
Location: East Brunswick, NJ | Onsite, five days per week
Pay: $22-25 per hour, depending on experience
About the Company
An established RF and microwave technology company is seeking an Electronics Assembler to join its Engineering team. The company builds compact, rugged amplifiers and communication hardware used in defense, aerospace, unmanned systems and satellite communications.
About the Role
You'll work closely with engineers to assemble, modify and rework electronic hardware during new product development. Approximately two-thirds to three-quarters of the work involves prototype assembly, offering variety and opportunities to apply precision soldering and practical problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble electronic and mechanical assemblies, subassemblies and RF modules using drawings, work orders and visual instructions.
- Solder small surface-mount components under a microscope, including components as small as 0402.
- Perform PCB rework and support modifications to prototype assemblies.
- Complete wire termination, crimping, cable/harness assembly and chassis wiring.
- Install components such as heatsinks, fans, covers, relays and transformers.
- Inspect assemblies for accuracy, component orientation and soldering quality.
- Identify assembly errors and communicate corrective actions to Engineering.
- Follow applicable electronics assembly quality standards and internal procedures.
Required Skills and Experience
- Hands-on electronics assembly and soldering experience; ideally 3-5 years.
- Ability to solder small surface-mount components under a microscope.
- Experience reading assembly drawings and following detailed work instructions.
- Ability to identify electronic components and understand polarity and orientation.
- Experience with cable assembly, crimping, harnessing and chassis wiring.
- Confidence using soldering irons, hand tools, torque tools and calipers.
- Understanding of IPC-A-610 or similar electronics assembly quality standards.
- Strong attention to detail, communication and organizational skills.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Basic Microsoft Office proficiency.
Preferred Experience
- Prototype assembly and engineering rework.
- PCB modification techniques, including trace cutting, jumper installation and dead-bugging.
- Experience assembling RF or microwave hardware.
- IPC-A-610 certification - helpful, but not required.
- Lean Six Sigma or relevant ASQ certification.
