Qualifications

Job description

Position Title: Engineering Analyst/Senior Engineering Analyst
Location: Urbandale, IA, United States
Description:

This is a multi-level posting and will be filled at the appropriate level based on related experience and education.

The engineering analyst is the primary resource that leads cross-functional teams in assessing, evaluating, justifying and implementing upgrades, enhancements or new technologies that enhance safety, service, compliance, productivity, and risk management. The engineering analyst also provides technical direction and support to maintain electric delivery systems as well as conducts operational and cost benefit studies, surveys and research to support development or revision of objectives, policies, practices and programs, participates in major cost and process improvement initiatives and projects, and provides technical support in managing the business unit's financial performance.

Responsibilities:
  • Act as the primary higher level knowledge base, problem solver, and training contact for key computer applications used in engineering. Interface across the company on complex issues pertaining to the key computer applications and develop unique solutions to problems that arise. Develop and recommend programs and methods to measure work performance, foster cost savings and improve efficiency. Work with delivery business unit management to analyze data sets, and built data tables. Responsible to maintain areas monthly, quarterly and annual reporting requirements. Identify areas for cost control, including direct allocations of corporate costs and process efficiency improvements; where appropriate, participate in development and implementation of action plan. (30%)
  • Serve as primary source of business and technical expertise or project leadership for activities that require complex expansive cross-functional knowledge for a majority of delivery services work groups. This includes but is not limited to evaluation and implementation of complex key software assets, participation in and management of technology user groups and leadership roles on various project teams. Develop methods and processes to provide more accurate and timely delivery business unit OM and capital expenditure forecasts. (20%)
  • Initiate and deliver principal support to complex engineering distribution operations, and schedulers in areas such as end user support, software development, implementation, testing, operation and maintenance for transmission and distribution computer systems used for delivery services. Develop methods and processes to provide more accurate and timely delivery business unit OM and capital expenditure forecasts. (20%)
  • Deliver training of a complicated nature requiring specialized complex skills. Review and verify proposed delivery business unit OM budget and ten-year plan; identify significant issues and work with delivery business unit management to resolve issues and prioritize expenditures. (10%)
  • Conduct feasibility studies, surveys and research to support development or revision of objectives, policies, practices and programs to foster cost savings and improve efficiency. (10%)
  • Provide support, process review, process improvement, and training for storm recovery efforts. (5%)
  • Provide higher technical expertise and direction to functional staff groups and senior distribution management. (5%)
  • Provide support for complex processing claims with damages to our gas and electric facilities. Provide higher support to property accounting and tax services, including coordination between all other engineering and operations departments. Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Qualifications:
Engineering Analyst:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, information technology, business administration or related field or equivalent work experience. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)
  • Six years experience related to utility and/or business operations or equivalent.
  • Leadership skills to influence individuals and teams toward accomplishment of goals. Effective analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills to compile and analyze data and to recommend appropriate course of action. Planning skills to develop plans and forecasts and to manage and coordinate projects. Effective oral and written communication skills to effectively present information and persuade opinion. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
Senior Engineering Analyst:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, information technology, business administration or related field or equivalent work experience. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)
  • Eight or more years experience related to utility and/or business operations or equivalent.
  • Advance degree preferred.
  • Advanced leadership skills to direct the activities of individuals and/or teams toward the accomplishment of goals. Effective analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills to compile and analyze data and to recommend appropriate course of action. Planning skills to develop plans and forecasts and to manage and coordinate projects. Effective oral and written communication skills to effectively present information and persuade opinion. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
