Job summary

Eli Lilly invites applications for a process engineer to own the Lilly Technology Center chilled water system, the campus' largest electricity consumer, with focus on reliability, cost‑effectiveness, and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • Lead local projects to improve system performance and document commissioning and state control.
  • Provide daily support with data analysis, KPI review, and cross‑functional communication.
  • Monitor process parameters and train staff on operation and maintenance methods.

Job description

Organization Overview

The LTC Utilities site motto is the “heartbeat of manufacturing”. We provide a critical role in enabling our manufacturing business partners to make medicine through generating and reliably supplying the required utilities throughout the LTC site.

Responsibilities

This process engineering role is the system owner for the Lilly Technology Center chilled water system, the largest consumer of electricity on the campus. Significant innovation for this system is expected.

The role ensures the system is operated and maintained reliably, cost‑effectively, and compliantly, with sufficient capacity for present and future needs. It includes day‑to‑day responsibilities as well as leadership of site improvement projects. Key expectation: effective interactions with business partners across the LTC site.

Project Management
  • Lead local projects and changes to improve system performance.
  • Develop documentation to ensure system is properly commissioned and remains in a controlled state.
  • Develop and implement site master plan for systems through creation and development of site models.
Daily Support
  • Prioritize system improvement efforts, provide data, demonstrate engineering principles, analyze KPIs.
  • Maintain efficient communications with site customer groups.
  • Monitor important process parameters to assure system operates properly and meets regulatory requirements.
  • Provide documentation for proper methods to operate and maintain equipment and processes.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts for recurring equipment failures and guide operations and maintenance personnel.
Process Monitoring and Technical Support
  • Conduct data mining, data analysis, and process monitoring.
  • Assure adequate site capacity for current and future requirements.
  • Provide technical support to other engineers on complex issues as required.
  • Maintain, develop, and conduct training for systems.
Basic Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering strongly preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a manufacturing environment or utilities‑related role
Additional Skills/Preferences
  • Automation engineering experience with PLC and HMI software programming, hardware, instrumentation, and computer system validation.
  • Prior pharmaceutical industry experience including utilities, manufacturing, and project management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook).
  • Understanding of GMP.
  • Ability to work with multiple business partners and prioritize when needed.
  • Strong self‑management, organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
Additional Information
  • Travel: 0‑10%
  • Position requires on‑site presence >80% of the time in Indianapolis, IN.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Position may require availability outside normal business hours for equipment‑related issue resolution.
  • Must tolerate temperature variations while working outdoors in winter and summer weather conditions.
