Job summary

Florida Department of Transportation is seeking engineers-in-training in DeLand, Florida. The four-year Professional Engineer Training Program offers hands-on exposure to planning, traffic operations, structures, design, construction and maintenance, with a clear path to professional licensure.

During the first 18 months you rotate through major disciplines and may be placed in the technical area that aligns with your interests and the Department’s needs.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of transportation engineering concepts, terminology, principles and analytical techniques.
  • Skilled and proficient in the use of computers.
  • Ability to solve problems relating to engineering.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments and projects.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with others.

Responsibilities

  • Rotate through major disciplines shadowing staff and completing assigned tasks.
  • Perform technical engineering tasks across maintenance, design, and construction.
  • Work in Roadway, Drainage, Traffic Control Devices, and Structures.
  • Engage in Planning, Environmental Management, and Project Evaluation tasks.
  • Assist in surveying, base line control, and right of way surveys.
  • Develop competencies in materials, geometry, and quality control.
