Job summary

The Durst Organization in New York, NY is seeking an Engineer to join our campus and high-rise maintenance team. You will startup, regulate, repair, and oversee equipment including Multistack chillers and Areco boilers, ensuring safe operation and reliability.

The role requires hands-on diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and coordination with building staff. Candidates should hold NYC Fire Department Refrigeration Machine Operator License, Fire Safety Director Certification, and EPA Universal

Qualifications

  • Valid NYC Fire Department Refrigeration Machine Operator License
  • Minimum 3+ years as operating engineer in high-rise building or campus site
  • Fire Safety Director Certification
  • Sprinkler/Standpipe Certification
  • Air Compressor Certification
  • BMS and control experience
  • EPA Universal Certification
  • Experience with HW boilers, Multistack chillers, Electrical, Plumbing and Sprinkler Standpipe Systems
  • Knowledge of other Fire Safety systems
  • Minimum 3 years year’s basic electrical experience
  • Minimum 3 years year’s plumbing experience

Responsibilities

  • Start up, regulate, repair and shut down equipment safely (Multistack chillers and Areco boilers)
  • Monitor meters, gauges and computerized controls to ensure safe operation
  • Perform preventive maintenance on MEP systems
  • Use hand and power tools for repairs and maintenance
  • Diagnostics, repair and operation of refrigeration supplemental cooling
  • Review BMS for operational performance and alarms; provide corrections
  • Record events and provide diagnostics for corrective action
  • Audit safety devices and troubleshoot problem areas
  • Test and treat hydronic systems to prevent corrosion
  • Complete duty as assigned in campus environments (multiple buildings)
  • Follow PPE and LOTO safety protocols
  • Support staff, Handyman, Porters and subcontractors; assist Concierge
  • Perform tasks in residential units as required
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of facilities and equipment
  • Execute daily work orders and escalate issues when needed
  • Build and repair cabinets, counters, closets, etc.
  • Minor electrical repairs and plumbing work
  • Plastering and painting as needed
  • Address minor leaks and repairs in plumbing; repairs doors/locks/hardware
  • Snow removal and perimeter maintenance

Job description

The Durst Organization is seeking an Engineer 29-59 Northern Boulevard, Long Island City NY 11101.

The shift and schedule for this position will be Tuesday-Saturday 3pm-11pm

Days off: Sunday/Monday

Salary range is $47.71- $53.01 per hour.

In a safe manner, start up, regulate, repair and shut down equipment. Including Multistack chillers and Areco boilers

Ensure equipment operates safely and within established limits by monitoring attached meters, gauges and computerized controls

Perform and document all preventive maintenance task on MEP systems

Use of hand and power tools to perform repairs and maintenance ranging from a complete overhaul to replacing defective valves, gaskets or bearings in a safe manner

Hands on in all aspects of diagnostics, repair and operation of refrigeration supplemental cooling

Review BMS for operational performance and critical alarms. Provide feedback to correct

Record relevant events and facts concerning operation and provide diagnosis for corrective action

Audit safety device and identify and troubleshoot any problem areas

Test and chemically treat hydronic systems to prevent corrosion and harmful deposits

Perform other related duties as required and assigned to as it relates to a campus work environment.(multiple buildings)

Follow all PPE and LOTO safety protocols

Support all staff, Handyman, Porters and subcontractors as needed. Receive direction from Concierge

Perform necessary tasks and workorders within residential units as assigned and required

General maintenance, orderliness, and cleanliness to ensure the facilities and equipment in the building and resident’s apartments are in good working order at all times

Executes daily routine work orders and escalates issues upward as necessary

Builds and repairs cabinets, counters, closets, and other carpentry as needed

Making minor electric repairs (switches, receptacles, light fixtures, etc.)

Plastering and painting as needed on small and large scales

Minor plumbing including but not limited to repairing leaks, minor pipe replacements, appliance repairs (washers/dryers, refrigerators, etc.)

Repairs entrance and internal doors, locks, hinges, create keys and other operable hardware

Snow removal and perimeter maintenance as required

Qualifications:
  • Valid New York City Fire Department Refrigeration Machine Operator License with a minimum of one year’s continuous experience
  • Minimum 3+ years as operating engineer in high-rise building or campus site
  • Fire Safety Director Certification
  • Sprinkler/Standpipe Certification
  • Air Compressor Certification
  • BMS and control experience
  • EPA Universal Certification
  • Experience with HW boilers, Multistack chillers, Electrical, Plumbing and Sprinkler Standpipe Systems
  • Knowledge of other Fire Safety systems
  • Minimum of 3 years year’s basic electrical experience – that encompassed minor troubleshooting and wiring
  • Minimum of 3 years year’s plumbing experience – bathroom repair, soldering, pipe threading, pro press

Physical ability to climb ladders, and lift up to 75 lbs. on a regular basis, enter and operate in confined spaces, operate power tools

Ability to work with exposure to elements such as odor, noise, dust, heat, cold, or chemicals with proper PPE

Positive attitude and communication skills is a priority
