Job summary

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems Sector seeks a Software Engineer (or Principal Software Engineer) to support the Global Surveillance Division at our Melbourne, Florida office. This role is fully onsite with no remote or hybrid options.

You will perform full life‑cycle development, design, test, and maintenance of software, using C/C++ or other OOP languages, across Linux and Windows environments, and collaborate with hardware teams and stakeholders to deliver high‑quality solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM with at least 2 years of software engineering experience, or Master’s with 0 years.
  • For Principal Software Engineer: bachelor’s degree in STEM with at least 5 years of experience, or Master’s with 3 years.
  • Experience with aviation or safety‑critical systems.
  • Development experience with C/C++ or other OOP languages.
  • Experience developing software in Linux and Windows environments.
  • U.S. citizen with ability to obtain and maintain final adjudicated Secret clearance.

Overview

At Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems Sector we are looking for a Software Engineer (or Principal Software Engineer) to support the Global Surveillance Division at our Melbourne, Florida office. This role is fully onsite with no remote or hybrid options.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deploy, automate, maintain, troubleshoot and improve systems and software infrastructure.
  • Design and implement application builds, releases, deployments and configuration activities.
  • Work with internal business partners to gather requirements, prototype, and architect complex solutions.
  • Participate in the full life‑cycle of software development: requirements, modeling, design, development, unit, integration, system testing, release, installation, and maintenance.
  • Conduct quality reviews, triage and fix operational issues, and analyze large data sets.
  • Communicate technical approaches and findings to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with equipment designers and hardware engineers in planning and development.
  • Represent the organization as the prime technical contact on contracts and projects.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM with at least 2 years of software engineering experience, or Master’s degree with 0 years.
  • For Principal Software Engineer: bachelor’s degree in STEM with at least 5 years of experience, or Master’s with 3 years.
  • Experience with aviation or safety‑critical systems.
  • Development experience with C/C++ or other OOP languages.
  • Experience developing software in Linux and Windows environments.
  • U.S. citizen with ability to obtain and maintain final adjudicated Secret clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Master’s degree in STEM with at least 5 years of experience.
  • Experience in SELinux, RedHat Linux configuration, Red Hat System Administration.
  • Proficiency with Git, GitLab, agile development tools, and version control.
  • Full software development life‑cycle experience.
  • Experience with Ansible automation, IP stack, network configuration, containerization and orchestration.
  • Experience building/managing RPMs from source, multithreaded application development.
  • Familiarity with Agile, Rhapsody/Cameo UML modeling.
  • Current DoD 8570 IAT Level II or greater certification (Security+).
  • Holder of a special program access.
  • Effective communication within multi‑disciplinary teams.
Compensation and Benefits

Primary salary range: $77,200.00 - $115,800.00. Secondary salary range: $95,300.00 - $142,900.00. The company may offer overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonuses, and long‑term incentives for higher positions. Benefits include health insurance, life and disability insurance, savings plan, paid holidays, and PTO.
