Job summary

SSR, a leading engineering design, consulting, and planning firm, seeks an Engineer I in Dallas, TX. You’ll apply standard design engineering techniques on small projects, support analyses, drawings, and client communication under senior engineers.

As you grow toward responsible charge, you’ll develop design concepts, oversee drawings, coordinate with architects and other disciplines, participate in meetings, and assist with budgets, loads, and equipment selection, while mentoring junior staff.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited Bachelor's degree in Engineering with four years of applicable experience.
• Registered Professional Engineer.

Responsibilities

• Apply standard design engineering techniques on small projects or selected segments of larger work, supporting analyses, drawings, coordination, and client communication under senior engineers.
• Begin assuming responsible charge for portions of project designs under supervision of the EOR.
• Develop design approaches and concepts with input/oversight from the EOR; perform engineering studies and analyses using industry software.
• Oversee preparation of drawings and documentation; ensure accuracy, neatness, and adherence to standards; review colleague work.
• Coordinate equipment and design space with the architect and other disciplines; communicate requirements clearly.
• Attend internal kickoff/design meetings and meetings with owners/clients/architects; document decisions and actions.
• Coordinate with authorities, utilities, and municipalities to meet construction codes and requirements.
• Assist with discipline manhour budgets; plan work to schedule and report progress and risks.
• Perform studies, load calculations, and equipment selection; review work for technical accuracy before QA/QC.
• Respond to contractor and supplier questions during bid and construction; review shop drawings and submittals; conduct site visits.
• Maintain detailed records of communications; contribute to lessons learned and mentoring of designers/EITs.

What You’ll Do

As an Engineer I, you'll apply standard design engineering techniques on small projects or selected segments of larger work-supporting analyses, drawings, coordination, and client communication while developing toward responsible charge under the guidance of senior engineers.

• Begin assuming responsible charge for portions of project designs under the supervision of the EOR and within your control and expertise.
• Develop design approaches and concepts with conceptual input/oversight from the EOR; perform engineering studies and analyses using industry software.
• Oversee preparation of drawings and documentation; ensure accuracy, neatness, and adherence to standards; review colleague work and provide feedback.
• Coordinate equipment and overall design space requirements with the architect and other disciplines; communicate design requirements clearly.
• Attend internal kickoff/design meetings and meetings with owners/clients/architects as needed; document decisions and action items.
• Coordinate with authorities, utilities, and municipalities to incorporate construction, code, and government requirements.
• Assist with discipline manhour budgets; plan work to schedule and report progress, risks, and needed changes to the project manager.
• Perform studies, load calculations, and equipment selection appropriate to the project design; review work for technical accuracy before QA/QC.
• Respond to contractor and supplier questions during bid and construction; review shop drawings and submittals.Conduct site visits to monitor progress and observe installed structure; comment according to design specifications, owner expectations, and codes.
• Maintain detailed records of communications with clients, contractors, vendors, and team members; contribute to lessons learned.
• Support training and mentoring of designers and EITs; maintain continuous learning on codes, software, and industry trends; assist PMs as needed.

Who We're Looking For

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited college with four years applicable experience in discipline design and analysis
• Registered Professional Engineer

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Knowledge of engineering theories and methodologies; ability to perform studies, load calculations, and equipment selection.
• Proficiency with industry software (Revit, AutoCAD) and disciplinespecific tools (e.g., Trace700, SKM).
• Knowledge of drafting/design procedures, standards, and specifications; knowledge of applicable codes and regulations.
• Strong technical writing and written communication; clear speech clarity; strong comprehension and followthrough.
• Detailoriented with sound judgment and decisionmaking; effective interpersonal skills and ability to mentor designers/EITs.
