Job summary

Intercontinental Exchange, Inc. is seeking a Systems Engineer to maintain high-availability Linux and Windows environments across development, non-production, and production systems.

You will work with diverse teams to implement automation, support releases, and continuously improve performance and reliability. The role requires experience with containers (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, Tanzu), scripting, configuration management, and strong communication in English.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience with Linux operating systems (RedHat variants preferred).
• 2+ years of experience with Windows Server operating systems.
• 2+ years of experience with container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, Tanzu, etc).
• Experience deploying and supporting both physical and virtual infrastructure.
• Strong scripting/automation with Python, Ruby, or Go.
• Automation/configuration management using Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or equivalent.
• Familiarity with Git, Bitbucket, SVN or similar source control.
• Knowledge of multi-tiered, highly available, resilient application design.
• Understanding of horizontal/vertical scaling for performance and HA.
• Strong problem-solving, analytics, and customer-focused mindset.
• Excellent communication with technical and business stakeholders.
• Fluent English in speaking, reading, and writing.

The Systems Engineer is responsible for creating and maintaining availability and high-performance in mixed Linux and Windows development, non-production, and production environments. This individual works as part of a results-oriented, service-delivery team and assists configuration analysts, release engineers, developers, and operations teams. Additionally, the Systems Engineer performs root cause analysis of problems, selects and implements automation tools, and actively participates in deeply technical discourse.

Responsibilities

• Investigate and adopt new technologies/tools as needs arise
• Respond to and assist in production operations in a 24/7 environment
• Evaluate, test, and integrate new operating system versions, drivers, and patches
• Provide technical analysis, resolve problems, and propose solutions
• Provide support to, and coordinate with, developers, operations staff, release engineers, and end-users
• Automate common tasks in continuing effort to improve efficiency and consistency
• Participate in a weekly on-call rotation for after-hours support

Knowledge and Experience

• 3+ years of experience with Linux operating systems (RedHat variants preferred)
• 2+ years of experience with Windows Server operating systems
• 2+ years of experience with container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, Tanzu, etc)
• Experience with deploying and supporting both physical and virtual infrastructure
• Solid experience coding with any combination of Python, Ruby and/or GoLang scripting and automation
• Experience with automation/configuration management using either Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or equivalent
• Familiarity with source control tools, such as git, Bitbucket, SVN or others
• Demonstrable knowledge of multi-tiered, highly available, and resilient application design
• Knowledge of horizontal and vertical scaling for performance and high availability
• Top-tier analytics and problem solving
• Ability to work in a service-oriented team environment
• Project Management, organization, and time management
• Customer-focused, and dedicated to the best possible user experience
• Communicate effectively with both technical and business resources
• Fluent speaking, reading, and writing in English

Desired

• Bachelors Degree in engineering discipline or equivalent experience in Systems Engineering
• Familiar with deployment automation and orchestration (Jenkins preferred)
• Experience packaging windows software with Chocolatey
