Job summary

Qarbon Aerospace is seeking a skilled engineer to analyze engineering drawings and Catia models, define part configurations, and plan machine operations for complex composite components.

You will develop NC machining programs, select appropriate tooling, and optimize cutting conditions. The role requires hands-on experience with 5-axis mills, water jet, and metrology equipment, with ITAR-related eligibility.

Qualifications

  • Catia and related software proficiency required.
  • 2D drawing evaluation and interpretation required.
  • GD&T knowledge required.
  • Operational knowledge of CNC equipment (5 axis mills, water jet, inspection tools) required.
  • Composite machining experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze engineering drawings and Catia models to define configuration of parts and determine machine operation sequence.
  • Develop programs for machining parts on numerically controlled tools.
  • Make cutter selections considering speeds, cutters, feeds, and control limits.
  • Test and modify existing programs for changes or improvements.
  • Provide input for new programs and engineering efforts.

Position Overview
  • Analyzes engineering drawings and Catia models to define configuration of parts and determine type and sequence of machine operations.
    • Develop programs for machining parts, tools, or sheet metal on numerically controlled machine tools.
    • Makes proper cutter selections for each part, taking into consideration such factors as speeds, types of cutters, feeds, and control system limitations.
    • Selects program routines for the most efficient computer calculation of dimensional and machining requirements for each part.
    • Test and modifies existing parts programs for engineering changes or program improvements.
    • Provide input for engineering efforts required for new programs.
  • Extensive use of Catia for engineering evaluations to include
    • Manufacturability
    • Quality analysis of critical features
    • Relationships between parts, layup modes, mill fixtures, assembly jigs
  • Utilize validation software to ensure no interference between machines, tooling, and parts
  • Utilize probing for set ups, tooling inspections, part quality inspections, and machine inspections
  • Design and build composite tooling for part curing, fixtures for NC machining, and assembly operations
Experience and Education Requirements
  • Level I: Bachelor's degree or equivalent and 0-2 years of related experience
  • Level II: Bachelor's degree or equivalent and 3-6 years of related experience
  • Level III: Bachelor's degree or equivalent and 7+ years of related experience
  • Must be a US Citizen or a Permanent resident per ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) guidelines.
  • This position is not eligible for Visa sponsorship or a foreign person per ITAR.
  • Catia and related software such as Vericut, Fibersim, PowerInspect
  • GD&T
  • 2D drawing evaluation and interpretation
  • Operational knowledge and hands on support of CNC equipment including 5 axis mills, water jet, and inspection equipment
  • Composite machining, honeycomb core is a plus
