Job summary

American Airlines is seeking an Engineer L2 to join the Maintenance Programs Team in Technical Operations. The role involves maintaining and optimizing aircraft maintenance programs to ensure regulatory compliance, fleet reliability, and cost efficiency.

You will apply engineering and data analysis to drive program enhancements and collaborate across disciplines. The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s in Engineering, 2 years of related experience, and strong analytical and communication

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required.
  • Minimum of 2 years related experience.
  • Preferred: 3 years experience as an engineer with maintenance programs, aircraft systems or related.

Responsibilities

  • Keeps informed of day-to-day airline operations involving field of responsibility.
  • Assesses daily priorities in accordance with airline/departmental objectives and management directives.
  • Analyze MRBR, MPD, CMR, AWL/ALS, and other OEM documentation revisions; implement maintenance program changes as required.
  • Evaluate maintenance program effectiveness through analysis of data and identify opportunities for optimization.
  • Partner with Technical Operations groups to investigate reliability concerns and implement program enhancements.
  • Participate in reliability review meetings and serve as a maintenance program SME.
  • Perform data-driven analyses and cost-benefit evaluations to support escalations and initiatives.
  • Maintain awareness of fleet projects, system enhancements, and compliance activities.
  • Support leadership in implementing maintenance program changes and improvements.
  • Identify process gaps and develop corrective actions; interface with maintenance, engineering, reliability, and business systems.

What You’ll Do
Engineer L2
  • Keeps informed of day-to-day airline operations involving field of responsibility
  • Assesses daily priorities in accordance with airline/departmental objectives and management directives
  • Analyze Maintenance Review Board Reports (MRBR), Maintenance Planning Documents (MPD), Certification Maintenance Requirements (CMR), Airworthiness Limitations (AWL/ALS), and other OEM documentation revisions; implement maintenance program changes as required.
  • Evaluate maintenance program effectiveness through the analysis of operational, maintenance, and reliability data; identify opportunities for program optimization and continuous improvement
  • Partner with other Technical Operations organizations to investigate reliability concerns, develop corrective actions, and implement maintenance program enhancements that improve fleet performance and operational efficiency.
  • Participate in reliability review meetings and serve as a maintenance program subject matter expert.
  • Perform data-driven analyses and cost-benefit evaluations to support maintenance program escalations, interval optimizations, policy changes, and strategic initiatives
  • Maintain awareness of maintenance program projects, fleet initiatives, system enhancements, and compliance activities across all assigned fleets.
  • Support Maintenance Program leadership and specialists in the implementation of maintenance program changes, escalations, optimizations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Identify process gaps, compliance risks, and opportunities for standardization; develop and implement corrective actions and process improvements.
  • Interface with multiple maintenance, engineering, reliability, and business systems to support analysis, reporting, project execution, and program management activities.
  • Provide technical analysis, reporting, and ad hoc support for assigned projects and business initiatives.
  • Lead efforts to evaluate and implement new technologies and methodologies
  • May work irregular hours and shift schedules; may travel
All you’ll need for success
Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required
  • 2 years of related experience
Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
  • 3 years experience as an engineer with maintenance programs, aircraft systems or related
  • A&P license or military service
  • Knowledge of the following
    • Airline maintenance programs, policies, and procedures
    • MSG-3 maintenance program development methodology
    • Reliability program principles and practices
    • Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs/CFRs) and FAA policies and guidance
    • Airworthiness Directives (ADs), Certification Maintenance Requirements (CMRs), and Airworthiness Limitations (AWLs)
    • Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs) and their impact on maintenance programs
    • Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) maintenance documentation, including MRBR, MPD, AMM, SRM, IPC, TSM, and CMM
    • Data analysis techniques used to support maintenance program escalations, optimizations, and business decisions
    • Maintenance and engineering applications such as SAFE, APC, LMO, SCEPTRE, and related systems
Skills, Licenses & Certifications
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Excellent analytical, technical writing, problem solving, communication, planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Must be self-motivated and disciplined in their work ethics
  • Basic computer programming
