Job summary

TRAX International seeks a Junior Engineer for the Potomac River Test Range to independently evaluate, adapt, and apply standard techniques for planning engineering tasks and data collection.

The role supports RDT&E data acquisition for weapons systems, participates in test planning, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate instrumentation and data processing.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, science, or technical discipline.
  • Three years of experience in any work environment.
  • Experience working collaboratively on a project team.
  • Strong foundations in aerospace, mechanical, electrical, computer, or systems engineering.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills; analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Applies engineering principles to support instrumentation planning for RDT&E of weapons systems.
  • Attends instrumentation, data collection and processing meetings and aids in test statements.
  • Evaluates instrumentation performance under varying environmental conditions.
  • Designs strategies and plans instrumentation positioning for data acquisition while mitigating hazards.
  • Provides data acquisition inputs to Test Plans with traceability to test objectives.
  • Performs project work using established engineering practices and develops new approaches.
  • Operates with general instructions; may receive guidance on special problems.
  • Evaluates, selects and applies standard engineering techniques with minor adaptations.
  • Offers independent professional support on portions of complex projects.
  • Ensures accuracy and completeness of assignment objectives, approaches, and solutions.
  • Performs assignments involving complex features guided by codes and precedents.
  • Analyzes results using prescribed techniques and handles multiple variables.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

Contract Pending Award

The Engineer, Junior at the Potomac River Test Range (PRTR) independently evaluates, selects, adapts, and modifies standard techniques and criteria to plan and conduct engineering assignments.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Applies engineering principles and practices to support the instrumentation planning for the RDT&E of weapons systems
  • Attends instrumentation, data collection and processing meetings where test program requirements are defined and assists in the development of pre- and post-test accuracy statements
  • Evaluates instrumentation performance under varying environmental conditions and new or modified operating conditions or configurations
  • Designs strategies and plan instrumentation positioning that enable data acquisition efforts while projecting instrumentation from the hazards created during the conduct of laboratory and field tests
  • Provides Data Acquisition inputs to Test Plans including specifying traceability of all data requirements to specific test objectives
  • Performs project work through knowledge of engineering practices and policies, and to devise new approaches to resolve problems
  • Operates with general instructions in an independent mode and receives guidance on special problems or when requested
  • Independently evaluates, selects and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, and makes minor adaptations and modifications
  • Provides independent and professional support on portions of complex projects
  • Specific assignment objectives, approaches, and possible solutions are reviewed for accuracy and completeness
  • Independently performs a project assignment that involves complex features and can be guided by codes, standards, and other precedents of the discipline
  • Analyzes and/or evaluates the results of an analysis using techniques prescribed by senior engineers or supervisors
  • Accomplishes tasks of which require investigation of many variables
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from an accredited college or university in an engineering, scientific, or technical discipline
  • Three (3) years of experience in any work environment
  • Experience working collaboratively as a member of a project team
  • Solid foundation in the principles and practices of aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer engineering, or systems engineering
  • Demonstrated communication and teamwork skills, essential for success in a T&E team environment
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to think critically and solve complex problems within the T&E process
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
  • Completion of relevant internships or co-op programs dealing with the concepts of T&E
  • Familiarity with specific engineering standards and regulations
Physical Qualifications
  • The work of this position is performed in an environmentally controlled office environment
  • Must be capable of sitting and entering data on a computer keyboard for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to view computer monitor for extended periods of time
  • Must be capable of lifting 25 lbs. unassisted

Terms of Employment & Eligibility Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must possess a valid driver's license, without special restrictions

  • Must possess or be able to obtain an interim security clearance prior to employment and maintain security clearance for the duration of employment
