Job summary

Martin/Martin, Inc. is seeking a Structural Engineer in Training (EIT) for our San Mateo, CA office to work on a broad range of project types and structural materials, gaining exposure to both new building design and existing building investigations and retrofits.

You will collaborate with owners, architects, and contractors from early in the project life cycle, with a hybrid work schedule, competitive benefits, and a clear path toward licensure as you develop expertise across codes, design

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from ABET accredited program.
  • Has passed FE Examination.
  • Master's degree in engineering is desirable.
  • Knowledge of building codes and materials is preferred.
  • Experience with CAD/BIM software is expected.
  • Strong time management and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Uses computer design and CAD/BIM software.
  • Prepares details and calculations for project components and systems.

Job description

Description: Martin/Martin, Inc. is looking for a Structural Engineer in Training (EIT) for our San Mateo, CA office. This engineer will have the opportunity to work on a broad range of project types with many different structural materials. This position will provide opportunities to gain experience in both new building structural design and existing building investigations and retrofits.

A typical work week can include engineering calculations, drawing development, Construction Administration tasks, and site visits. This position allows for interactions with owners, architects, and contractors early in your career as you build relationships throughout the project life cycle. While many of our projects are located in California, Martin/Martin's national footprint provides opportunities to work on projects around the country.

The Team

Our structural engineering teams provide custom solutions for new constructions and expansions both in California and nationally, with a strong record in notable projects like Coors Field, the SLAC Science and User Support Building, the California State Legislative Office Building, and Topgolf.

Responsibilities
  • Knowledge and use of computer design and CAD/BIM software
  • Prepares details and calculations for project components and systems
  • Learns about products and construction procedures
  • Prepares and writes reports
  • Provides field observation during construction
  • Studies and applies building code and/or jurisdictional requirements
  • Reviews shop drawings and product submittals
  • Checks own work
  • Coordinates work with other disciplines
  • Acts proactively and proposes potential solutions to problems
  • Works overtime, when necessary
  • Other duties as assigned
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited engineering curriculum in Architectural, Civil, Environmental, Construction, Structural, or related engineering field
  • Has passed FE Examination
Desired
  • Master's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited engineering curriculum in Architectural, Civil, Structural, or related engineering field
  • Knowledge of building and material design codes
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently for extended periods of time

  • Committed to client service and a team-based approach
  • Experience using Autodesk Revit to produce building construction documents
  • Experience analyzing structures using RAM, SAP, ETABS, or RISA

  • GPA of 3.5 or higher
Working Conditions, Skills, and Abilities

This position is primarily technical in nature and requires working inside and outside the office to complete a wide range of activities. The following abilities are required:

  • Move inside or outside the office and on non-ADA accessible construction sites
  • Remain stationary for long periods of time
  • Repetitive movement on tasks such as using a keyboard or mouse
  • Carry, ascend, and descend a ladder
  • Identify color
  • Read, communicate, and document in English
  • Determine and exchange accurate information
  • Occasionally move or hold equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Investigative: Positions self in atypical environments and small, confined spaces
Compensation

The wage range for this role considers the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.

  • Base Salary: For individuals hired in California, a reasonable estimate of the current range for this role is $91,000 - $98,500 annually.
  • Accrued Time:This is a salaried position with accrued time eligibility.Accrued time allows additional compensation or time-off to be earned for any eligible hours worked exceeding 40 hours per week.
  • Base Salary Review: This role is eligible to participate in Martin/Martin's annual base salary increase review process.
  • Annual Bonus: This role is eligible to participate in a discretionary annual bonus program.

Base salary review and increases, in addition to annual bonuses, are dependent on various factors, including a hired individual's job-level and annual company performance.
