Job summary

Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. (LAN) in Houston, TX is seeking an Engineer I to support engineering system design across multiple projects. You will assist with design calculations, specifications, reports, cost estimates and deliverable drawings under close supervision.

You will collaborate with engineers and designers, apply standard techniques, collect data, perform basic computations, and help prepare drawings while ensuring code compliance and site observations as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering required.
• 0–1 year engineering experience preferred.
• Ability to analyze complex problems and identify root causes.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, MATLAB, and SolidWorks.
• Understanding of timelines, budgeting, and resource allocation.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist Engineers and Designers in the design and detail of engineering systems; write/edit specifications and research design options on appropriate devices, equipment, and system selections.
• Apply prescribed techniques and procedures in accordance with established criteria to perform assigned tasks. Research document findings and providing recommendations.
• Collects data, gathers information and performs basic and standard computations or analysis. May prepare drawings and visual aids.
• Participate in meetings and reviews to ensure code compliance. May conduct site investigations and observations.
• May interact with staff, the public, officials, and contractors. Limited client-facing responsibilities.
