Job summary

KCI Technologies, Inc. is seeking an Engineer-in-Training to support the design and preparation of construction drawings across civil, transportation, and utility projects. You will work under a Professional Engineer, contributing to calculations, drafting, and multi-discipline coordination.

The position requires a 0-2 year background, a ABET-accredited engineering degree, and knowledge of MicroStation, AutoCAD, and Revit. Pre-employment drug screening and background checks apply.

Qualifications

• 0-2 years of experience in engineering or internship experience preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• General knowledge of design software such as MicroStation, AutoCAD and Revit.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Strong communication and technical writing skills.
• Detail-oriented with good organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design and preparation of construction drawings for civil, transportation, traffic, structural, mechanical, water/wastewater, and utility projects under supervision.
• Contribute to engineering calculations, drafting/CADD work, and coordination across disciplines.
• Conduct site visits to gather data and supporting project tasks as needed.
• Prepare design calculations, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for review.
• Review and help approve shop drawings to meet project requirements.
• Attend project team meetings to discuss progress and tasks.
• Ensure compliance with ISO requirements and budget parameters.
• Complete tasks on time and support utilization targets.

Duties, Responsibilities & Other

The Engineer-in-Training will assist in the design and preparation of construction drawings for various civil, transportation, traffic, structural, mechanical, water/wastewater, and utility projects. The Engineer-in-Training will work closely under the supervision of a Professional Engineer, contributing to engineering calculations, drafting, and coordination of multiple engineering disciplines. This role requires a general knowledge of engineering principles, ability to read and interpret plans, required design software knowledge, as well as strong communication, technical writing skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities*:

• Assist in the design and preparation of construction drawings for a variety of projects, including civil, transportation, traffic, structural, mechanical, water/wastewater, and utility.


• Perform engineering calculations, interpret engineering drawings and specifications.


• Work with multiple engineering disciplines and perform drafting/CADD work.


• Conduct site visits to gather data, including measurements, sketches, notes, and photographs, as needed.


• Prepare design calculations, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for review and approval.


• Review and approve shop drawings and ensure that they meet project requirements.


• Read and interpret technical documents necessary for job performance.


• Consult and coordinate with other practices and sub-consultants as required to ensure project success.


• Attend bi-weekly (or more frequent, as necessary) meetings with the project team to discuss project progress and tasks.


• Ensure that all projects fulfill ISO compliance requirements and operate within specified budget parameters.


• Complete all tasks on time and within budget while fully meeting project scope.


• Achieve or exceed budgeted individual utilization targets.


• Comply with all company policies and procedures.


• Complete other duties as required or assigned.
