Job summary

Microchip Technology Inc. is seeking a quality assurance professional to ensure purchased parts and manufactured goods conform to design, procurement, manufacture and reliability standards.

You will develop, apply and maintain quality requirements from design through manufacturing and support Continuous Improvement using Six Sigma. The role involves performing First Article Inspections, supplier audits, NPI input, root cause analysis in Agile PLM, and reporting trends to management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field with 4+ years of quality experience.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or electronics assembly environment.
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma and 8D methodologies to implement corrective actions.
  • Experience with LEAN philosophies and related processes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

  • Support operations by identifying, analyzing and resolving product and process problems using Six Sigma.
  • Audit conformance of manufactured goods to Engineering & Manufacturing standards.
  • Engage with contract manufacturers for transfer of products and change management.
  • Provide routine reporting on trends in procured material quality and product quality.
  • Perform First Article Inspections (FAI) on PCBA and related parts.
  • Conduct supplier quality system audits and travel domestically and internationally.

Job description

About the Role

You would be responsible for providing the quality assurance support necessary to ensure that purchased parts and manufactured goods conform to company standards for design, procurement, manufacture and reliability. Perform complex tasks to develop, apply and maintain quality requirements of products during design through manufacturing. Assist, as directed, in meeting department goals and objectives as established by Management. Implement and facilitate Continuous Improvement activities. This includes quality, productivity and effectiveness improvement in quality and manufacturing utilizing Six Sigma tools and practices.

Responsibilities

  • Support operations by assisting in the identification, analysis and resolution of product and process problems utilizing Six Sigma methodologies to solve a broad range of manufacturing problems.
  • Audit manufactured goods conformance to pertinent Engineering & Manufacturing Standards.
  • Engage with contract manufacturers for transfer of products, new product introduction and change management of existing products.
  • Provide routine reporting to company management on observed trends in procured material quality and product quality, making recommendations for improvement and corrective action.
  • Performs First Article Inspection (FAI) on PCBA's, pre-fab parts, sheet metal parts, Systems, etc. Following workmanship standards/procedures and company spec/guidelines.
  • Perform supplier audits of products, procedures, practices and processes for conformity to existing configuration control.
  • Participate in New Product Introduction (NPI) meetings providing inputs on supplier/manufacturing quality related items.
  • Perform root cause / corrective action analysis of failures using our Agile PLM system in accordance with our corrective action process.
  • Analysis of non-conformities using our Agile PLM system in accordance with our nonconforming process.
  • Assist in the conducting of supplier quality system audits for the purpose of evaluating and re-evaluating suppliers. Ability to perform process audits at supplier sites. Must be able to travel both domestically and internationally.
  • Assist Inspectors with piece part quality issues and drive corrective action to completion. Interface with suppliers to resolve quality issues. Also interface with Engineering to enhance drawings and requirements that impact supplier's ability to produce that part.
  • Other design, development, and support tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field and 4 years' experience and/or training in Quality; or equivalent combination of both education and experience.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or similar environment, preferably printed circuit board design/electronics assemblies.
  • Familiarity with the application of Six Sigma and 8D methodologies and tools to determine root cause and corrective action implementation for internal/external customer issues.
  • Experience utilizing current quality and LEAN philosophies, processes, techniques, and methodologies.
  • Proven use of Microsoft suite of products, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Highly motivated and driven professional.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills.

  • Open to gaining additional knowledge via training in the following areas:
  • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Lead trainer for IPC-610, J-STD-001, and certifications for internal employees.
