Job summary

Collins Aerospace seeks an Electrical Engineer to support the Nuclear Effects Survivability Team. The role covers requirement development, electrical design, hardware integration, and test verification across the product lifecycle.

Independent project management and 25% travel are required. Responsibilities include nuclear radiation characterization testing of electronics for radio/display systems, documentation, design reviews, and improving test capabilities.

Qualifications

  • Electrical testing experience including test design, troubleshooting, execution, analysis, and reporting.
  • Familiarity with RF concepts or RF test equipment.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, signal generators, meters).
  • Experience developing test automation with LabVIEW or Python.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, execute, and support nuclear radiation characterization testing of electronics for radio and display systems.
  • Conduct radiation effects testing (Total Ionizing Dose, Neutron, Gamma, SEEs) for survivability.
  • Prepare clear, well‑supported technical documentation.
  • Contribute to design reviews and advise on risk mitigation strategies.
  • Lead program personnel through test procedures to meet cost and schedule constraints.
  • Execute radiation tests at external facilities (up to 25% travel).

About the Role

The Environmental Effects Engineering (EEE) organization at Collins Aerospace seeks an Electrical Engineer to support the Nuclear Effects Survivability Team. The role covers requirement development, electrical design, hardware integration, and test verification/validation across the product lifecycle. It requires independent project management and 25% domestic travel with possible foreign travel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, execute, and support nuclear radiation characterization testing of electronics for radio and display systems.
  • Conduct parts‑level, circuit‑level, and system‑level radiation effects testing to ensure survivability against Total Ionizing Dose, Neutron Displacement Damage, Gamma Dose Rate, and Single Event Effects.
  • Prepare clear, well‑supported technical documentation.
  • Contribute to design reviews and advise on risk mitigation strategies.
  • Lead program personnel through test procedures to meet cost and schedule constraints.
  • Execute radiation effects testing events at external facilities (up to 25% travel).
  • Serve as a technical reference and subject‑matter expert on radiation effects on electrical devices.
  • Drive improvements to Collins’ radiation test capabilities in alignment with industry best practices.
Qualifications
  • Eligibility to obtain a U.S. DoD Top Secret Security Clearance.
  • Degree in STEM with at least 2 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field.
  • Electrical testing experience: test design, troubleshooting, execution, analysis, and reporting.
  • Circuit design experience using schematic capture tools, PCB layout, and board design guidance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • Familiarity with RF concepts or RF test equipment.
  • Hands‑on troubleshooting using laboratory equipment (oscilloscopes, signal generators, power meters, etc.).
  • Experience developing test automation with LabVIEW or Python.
  • Understanding of semiconductor device operation and basic nuclear physics relevant to electronic parts.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics.
  • Statistical analysis of test data.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Self‑management with minimal oversight.

Salary range: 68,900 USD – 131,100 USD. This range represents all experience levels and is an estimate. RTX considers various factors when extending offers, including role, responsibilities, experience, location, education, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits consistent with the specific business unit and collective‑bargaining agreements, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, and more.

Hired applicants may be eligible for incentive compensation programs depending on level and collective‑bargaining status. Payments are not guaranteed and depend on performance.
