Job summary

Weber Blackstone is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineer focused on New Product Development for outdoor cooking products in Palatine, IL. You will design and develop mechanical and electro‑mechanical systems, using CAD models, drawings, cost estimates, prototyping, and testing with a cross‑functional team.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering and 3–5 years of relevant experience, with solid skills in SolidWorks, DFMEA, DVP&R, and PPAP.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent required.
• 3–5 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience.
• Experience designing solutions that meet regulatory and safety requirements.
• SolidWorks proficiency with 3D modeling, sheet metal, and surfacing.

Responsibilities

• Decompose requirements and perform DFMEA, P-Diagrams, and DVP&R.
• Create and refine CAD models and assemblies to meet product requirements.
• Ensure designs meet performance specs and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with Quality, Manufacturing, and Suppliers.
• Create models, drawings, and bill of materials; support prototyping and testing.
• Develop test plans and execute validation activities.
• Conduct basic IP searches and support cost/quality initiatives.
• Innovate to address unmet customer needs and create new features.

Role Overview Summary:

This position is a hands-on Mechanical Engineer with a focus on New Product Development. This role is responsible for supporting all efforts related to the design and development of Mechanical and Electro-mechanical systems into our Outdoor Cooking products. In this role, you will work with a cross-functional team to design and implement ideas using CAD models, drawings, cost estimates, prototyping, and testing products. This position will provide engineering support for assigned product development projects. This is a hybrid role requiring in office days at our Palatine, IL campus.

Responsibilities:

• Develop solutions through requirements decomposition, Design Failure Mode Effect Analysis (DFMEA), P-Diagrams, and Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R)
• Create and refine design solutions for assemblies to identified product requirements, formalize designs with the use of CAD (SolidWorks)
• Ensure that products are designed to meet all performance specifications and regulatory requirements
• Work collaboratively with Quality, Manufacturing, and Suppliers
• Create models, drawings, and bill of material
• Support prototype creation and models to validate designs including hands-on testing and iterative learning
• Designs and runs test plans related to project work
• Perform basic IP searches
• Supports non-NPD initiatives including the resolution of quality issues, cost reductions, and productivity initiatives
• Develop unique and innovative solutions for unmet customer needs and/or new features to maintain product leadership

Qualifications:

• Education: Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
• Work Experience: Minimum: 3 to 5 years' experience in a relevant field
• Designing solutions that meet regulatory and safety requirements
• SolidWorks: Proficiency with 3D modeling
• Skills: Independent self-starter who can manage and prioritize work based on departmental goals and objectives. Effective communication (written, spoken, meeting facilitation). Ability to work cross-functionally. Team Player, Results Oriented, Tolerance Analysis.
• SolidWorks: sheet metal, surfacing, drawings, DFMEA, DVP&R, PPAP, Design for Assembly, Design for Manufacturing, Sheel metal, injection molding and die casting development experience (preferred)

Salary Range:

$80,000 - $91,000
