Weber Blackstone in Palatine, IL is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Designer focused on New Product Development to design mechanical and electro‑mechanical systems for outdoor cooking products, using CAD, drawings, cost estimates, prototyping and testing, in a hybrid role with in‑office days at our Palatine campus.

The ideal candidate has an associate degree in engineering and 3–5 years of relevant experience, strong SolidWorks skills, and a collaborative mindset for design across product

Responsibilities

• Create and refine design solutions using CAD (SolidWorks).
• Create complex models and drawings to guidelines and standards.
• Ensure designs meet performance specifications and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with Product, Quality, Manufacturing, and Suppliers.
• Support prototype creation and testing, including hands-on validation.
• Perform basic IP searches.
• Assist with non-NPD initiatives including quality, cost reductions, and productivity.

Role Overview Summary: This position is a hands‑on Mechanical Designer with a focus on New Product Development. This role is responsible for supporting all efforts related to the design of Mechanical and Electro‑mechanical systems into our Outdoor Cooking products. In this role, you will work with a cross‑functional team to design ideas using CAD models, drawings, cost estimates, prototyping, and testing products. This position will provide engineering design support for assigned product development projects. This is a hybrid role requiring in-office days at our Palatine, IL campus.

Responsibilities

• Create and refine design solutions to identified product requirements, formalize designs with the use of CAD (SolidWorks)
• Create complex models and drawings to established guidelines and standards.
• Ensure that products are designed to meet all performance specifications and regulatory requirements
• Work collaboratively with Product, Quality, Manufacturing, and Suppliers
• Support prototype creation and models to validate designs including hands‑on testing and iterative learning
• Perform basic IP searches
• Supports non‑NPD initiatives including the resolution of quality issues, cost reductions, and productivity initiatives
• Develop unique and innovative solutions for unmet customer needs and/or new features to maintain product leadership
• Provide design support across projects and product categories.
• Create and maintain specifications and project documentation as needed.

Qualifications

• Education: Associate degree in engineering, manufacturing, or equivalent technical degree
• Work Experience: Minimum of 3 to 5 years experience in a relevant field
• Designing solutions that meet regulatory and safety requirements
• SolidWorks: Proficiency with 3D modeling
• Skills: Independent self‑starter who can manage and prioritize work based on departmental goals and objectives
• Effective communication (written, spoken, meeting facilitation)
• Ability to work cross‑functionally

• Tolerance Analysis SolidWorks: sheet metal, surfacing, drawings DFMEA, DVP&R, PPAP, Design for Assembly, Design for Manufacturing
• Sheel metal, injection molding and die casting development experience (preferred)
