Entergy is seeking an Engineer I - Sr (Trans) to perform planning, maintenance, design engineering, project management and construction activities related to transmission substations and operations in Beaumont or Conroe, Texas. This onsite role can be filled at Engineer I or Sr level based on qualifications.

A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is required; PE may be considered. Substation relay protection experience is preferred.

  • Ensures compliance with NERC/SERC and other utilities regulations.
  • Collaborates with other disciplines to achieve goals and supports storm/restoration efforts.

Job Summary/Purpose

Performs a wide variety of planning, maintenance, design engineering, project management and construction, and operations activities related to routine, non-routine, and emergency restoration duties. Project areas may include grid/system design, operations and maintenance, planning, asset management, reliability, computer applications, safety, and root cause failure analysis.

Job Duties/Responsibilities
  • Performs a wide variety of detailed engineering analysis in Substation-related areas such as planning, maintenance, design, project management and construction, and operations.
  • Uses engineering/technical principles, best practices, and knowledge of internal and external business issues to solve problems, develop cost-effective, technically sound solutions, and improve products or services.
  • Applies knowledge of engineering principles in evaluating alternatives, making decisions, and interpreting/employing applicable electrical codes, procedures, standards, processes, and policies.
  • Provides engineering and technical support to Area Substation Supervisors in the group’s day to day performance of diagnostic and preventive maintenance tasks
  • Supports activities to comply with applicable industry standards (i.e., NERC, SERC) and other utility regulations, as required.
  • Works with other disciplines within the Transmission organization and other company business units to achieve stated goals
  • Assist with storm/emergency restoration efforts as necessary.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum education required of the position

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Discipline (typically Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, and Industrial) from a four-year accredited institution. Degrees in engineering technology (typically, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, and Industrial) from a four-year accredited institution with PE may be considered.Substation relay protection experience preferred

Minimum experience required of the position
  • Engineer I: 0 - 2 years of applicable engineering experience
  • Engineer II: at least 2 - 4 years of applicable engineering experience
  • Engineer III: at least 4 - 6 years of applicable engineering experience
  • Sr Engineer: at least 6 years of applicable engineering experience
Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position

Technical mastery of engineering principles. In-depth knowledge of procedures, programs, and standards in responsible area. Consistently drives for value in sound engineering decisions. Mentors other engineers and technical professionals. Good leadership skills. Good interpersonal skills along with strong written and oral communication skills. Excellent math skills. Excellent project management skills. Good knowledge of Personal Computer operations and related software. Ability to manage multiple activities and changing priorities. Ability to work well under pressure. Required to work safely and follow all Entergy safety policies and procedures. Ability to recognize hazards in the workplace and have the ability to mitigate the hazards. Demonstrated acceptance of a diverse and inclusive work environment and customer base.
