Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, or Industrial) from a four-year institution.
• Substation relay protection experience preferred.
• PE licensure may be considered for the right candidate.

Responsibilities

• Performs detailed engineering analysis in substation areas including planning, maintenance, design, project management and construction.
• Applies engineering principles to evaluate alternatives and ensure compliance with electrical codes and standards.
• Provides engineering and technical support to Substation Supervisors in diagnostic and preventive maintenance tasks.
• Supports activities to comply with industry standards (NERC, SERC) and other regulations.
• Collaborates with Transmission and other business units to achieve goals.
• Assists with storm and emergency restoration efforts as needed.

Job Summary/Purpose

Performs a wide variety of planning, maintenance, design engineering, project management and construction, and operations activities related to routine, non-routine, and emergency restoration duties. Project areas may include grid/system design, operations and maintenance, planning, asset management, reliability, computer applications, safety, and root cause failure analysis.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

• Performs a wide variety of detailed engineering analysis in Substation-related areas such as planning, maintenance, design, project management and construction, and operations.
• Uses engineering/technical principles, best practices, and knowledge of internal and external business issues to solve problems, develop cost-effective, technically sound solutions, and improve products or services.
• Applies knowledge of engineering principles in evaluating alternatives, making decisions, and interpreting/employing applicable electrical codes, procedures, standards, processes, and policies.
• Provides engineering and technical support to Area Substation Supervisors in the group’s day to day performance of diagnostic and preventive maintenance tasks
• Supports activities to comply with applicable industry standards (i.e., NERC, SERC) and other utility regulations, as required.
• Works with other disciplines within the Transmission organization and other company business units to achieve stated goals
• Assist with storm/emergency restoration efforts as necessary.

Minimum education required of the position

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Discipline (typically Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, and Industrial) from a four-year accredited institution. Degrees in engineering technology (typically, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, and Industrial) from a four-year accredited institution with PE may be considered.Substation relay protection experience preferred

Minimum experience required of the position

• Engineer I: 0 - 2 years of applicable engineering experience
• Engineer II: at least 2 - 4 years of applicable engineering experience
• Engineer III: at least 4 - 6 years of applicable engineering experience
• Sr Engineer: at least 6 years of applicable engineering experience

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position

Technical mastery of engineering principles. In-depth knowledge of procedures, programs, and standards in responsible area. Consistently drives for value in sound engineering decisions.
