Job summary

BAE Systems Space & Mission Systems is seeking a software engineer to develop satellite ground system software and deliver new capabilities in a fast-paced Agile setting. The role involves full software lifecycle work, cloud and on-prem tooling, and close collaboration with cross-functional teams on-site.

You will work on distributed C2, mission planning, and data processing software, leveraging COSMOS, ECLIPSE, OS/COMET and OASIS, with AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes to enable reliable, scalable

Qualifications

• BS degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
• Advanced degrees may substitute for experience.
• Experience with satellite ground system development.
• Experience with COSMOS, ECLIPSE, OS/COMET, or OASIS.
• Experience delivering high-reliability software in an Agile environment with CI/CD.

Responsibilities

• Develop satellite command and control, mission planning, and data analysis software systems.
• Perform full software lifecycle including requirements, architecture, design, code, test, integration, documentation, and support.
• Maintain a regular and predictable on-site work schedule and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Job description

The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capability Unit (SCU) at BAE Systems Space & Mission Systems Sector (SMS) is looking to expand our team with a talented and energetic software engineer to work on satellite ground system software delivering new capability to the industry. This position consists of working on a tightly integrated team in a fast-paced Agile environment to deliver continuous innovation to our customers. The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers’ missions. • Develop satellite command and control, mission planning, and data analysis software systems.
• Perform full software life cycle functions including software requirements, architecture, design, code, test, integration, documentation, and support.
• Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
• Perform other duties as necessary.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.

• Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
• May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
• May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
• BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required.
• Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
• Experience with satellite ground system development with a focus on distributed C2, data processing, or mission planning software.
• Experience with industry-standard ground systems such as COSMOS, ECLIPSE, OS/COMET, or OASIS.
• Experience delivering high-reliability software in an agile, team-based environment with a solid CI/CD workflow.
• Cloud development using AWS, Lambda, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Web and REST service development using Spring, Jersey, Flask, CherryPy, or Ruby on Rails.
